confirming location....

how do i go around this one????
when i have to confirm my location there are two options either do it by phone, or have a letter sent out to your address...
but when i want to do it by phone i have to add a new card???

aking 01-07-2010 12:39 PM

Hmmmm, this is new to me. I don't remember having to confirm my location.

oge 01-07-2010 01:03 PM

You have to use a home phone line or something silmilar. Not a cell phone. But if you do not answer the phone or what not you only have one chance then you will have to wait for the letter.

aribragin 01-07-2010 01:09 PM

no this time it asks me to add a card in order to continue by phone

slokor 01-07-2010 01:43 PM

I actually used to run into this problem too...
From my experience you have a couple of options.
You can add a VCC and then do the location confirmation. I dont like this option myself because I find that even though some services work its more hit and miss when using the paypal phone confirmation system. And if you fail one time you have to wait for the letter they send meaning you MUST have access to the address you have listed - and in the case of stealth accounts that is usually not the case.
The other option is to call paypal. I did it on several accounts and they pretty much always told me its a glitch in their system and allowed me to confirm my location by sending them a utility bill (you can make one of those up easily enough in photoshop if you have the right template). In some cases they lifted the limitation immediately without me sending in anything.
Theres always risk associated with calling paypal but if you know how to speak well then you should be fine. Of course it also depends on how many other steps you have in lifting the limitationon your account.

i guess i can try the vcc...if it dont work... ill make up an excuse, and its pretty much the whole 9 yards with social and invoices... and proof of shipping...

oge 01-07-2010 03:02 PM

Yea first you will have to confirm the credit card then right after that they want to call you. They say it's to make sure your cc address is the same as your location.

can i use a vcc for this?

oge 01-07-2010 04:24 PM

Yes but be prepared. Use vcc and have your phone (landline) number ready. Also is that the only thing they are requesting?

they are requesting ss# which i got covered.. and supplier info which i also got covered....the thing is with the confirming location....i use call forwarding to my cellphone... i pay like 15 dollars a month for it???? will it work, or will paypal know its phony?

oge 01-07-2010 08:14 PM

Well when you click resolve & enter your vcc after you confirm it then it will give you an option to confirm your location. They will call it's automated and enter the 4 digit code. That's it. Just remember if they can't call you then it will tell you that. Like if you had your cell phone listed it wouldn't call you and it would tell you that they need a landline. You are good to go. :thumb:

I know I said it above - but I think I should say it again.
Phone confirmation is hit and miss. If you do NOT have access to the address listed on the account I would avoid it.
Instead save the money youd spend on the VCC and call them to get this issue resolved. If you tell them about the add credit card issue they WILL let you confirm your location in other ways.
Good luck whichever way you decide to resolve this.

VERY helpful thread! :)

Guys, I can't pay for the yahoo phone...it reads an error after I enter my credit card info.
Is there any other way (service similar to yahoo phone) to get a landline number in the area I have my 'UShome address' and successfully recieve the call from PayPal?

Thanks

First Edition 02-21-2010 12:40 AM

For the puposes of paypal, you don't need a landline or contracted mobile phone number to confirm location.

However, if this is the case, I recommend phone.com, or vnumber.com, or google voice.

mbosl 02-21-2010 07:17 AM

Thanks for the recommendations.
PP have limited my account and I should resolve the 'limitation review', that consists of 3 parts: change password, security questions and confirm my location using a different credit card that matches the billing address and right after that they are going to call me. I am not in the states but the address with PayPal is American.
So can I use the google voice stuff or this one https://www.gtalk2voip.com/gtalk_service_did.shtml (I guess it is the same as google voice)?

Usually you only have to do that when you get the email saying that PayPal thinks your account is being accessed by a third party. Meaning a proxy or vpn?

mbosl 02-22-2010 04:36 AM

Yes, PayPal suspects that my acc has been accessed by a third party because I 'verified' my Paypal by adding a US-bank account to it and after I withdrew 2 sums over 300 USD, they limited my account.
I didn't use any proxy or vpn services. I just accessed my US-PayPal account from abroad. I am still abroad, but have to confirm that I am in the states.
