My PayPal account has become "limited..." Will I be able to withdraw $? Please help.

Hello,

Just joined this forum because I'm in quite a doozy. Well, I've been getting getting paid from various sites/people to do graphis design work for them. This includes logos, banners, etc. Well, this morning I got an email stating that my PayPal account will be closed....

"As part of our security measures, we regularly screen activity in the
PayPal system. During a recent screening, we noticed an issue regarding
your account.

We are very sorry, but in accordance with the PayPal User Agreement, we are no longer able to have you as a customer.

We have had to close your account for the following reason:

We have observed activity in this account that is unusual or potentially
high risk.

We apologize for any inconvenience this account closure may cause. You may
still log in to PayPal to view your transactions history and personal
information for a limited time.

The funds in your account will be held for 180 days, due to the risk of
outstanding chargebacks and complaints. After 180 days, any remaining funds will be available to you for withdrawal."

There was more, but it that part wasn't very important. What could have caused this and is there a way to "unlimit" myself before 180 days? I am using a Premier account.

Some facts to know.

-I received most of my $ as a gift payment. I also made them include a statement that they were purchasing a virtual service so that I could protect my self from chargebacks and that yuck.

-I was using a fictitious name (Tony Bear). I also recently linked my PayPal to my bank account. Obviously my bank account is under my legal and real name. Could this have set off the alarm? I tried to change my name by supplying PayPal with the needed documentation, but they wouldn't change it. I was told that this should not matter because they don't check? Though my name is fictitious I changed the address so that it is legit.

-I have $77 in my account. Most of the payments I received were like $3-$10. Really suspicous heh?

If I cannot unlimit my account (which I have basically just accepted) how can I go about reclaiming my money (I can reclaim my money right? I heard about PayPal holding onto it for ridiculous reasons). My PayPal is now directly linked with a bank account so can I just transfer my funds from the PayPal directly into my checking account or will the name be a difference? Can I get them to send me a check in my name?

Thanks for you support and any insight you can provide me.

PS - I have nothing to hide so if you have any questions I'd be glad to answer it.

Not sure what you mean by "will the name be a difference?"...anyway, doesn't really matter with most banks.

Check sent in your name? Check will only be sent in the name registered with that PayPal account.

Future Note: PayPal doesn't like a lot of "Gift" transactions going through any account.

Next time make sure you have the paypal debit card before accepting "Gift" or sending invoices. My friend is a 10yr old paypal member with a debit card and he doesn't seem to have a problem accepting paypal to paypal payments. You have to show them your trustworthy enough. ;)

If you can't remove the limit on your account, there is no way you can get your money for 180 days.

@TheyGotMe

I mean't "will the name difference be a problem?" The fact that I used Tony Bear for my PayPal name and my legal and real name for my bank account.

Thanks for the replies. So what do you guys think, will I be able to get the money back? I've heard that sometimes they hold onto it for even longer.

Also, can anyone help me on how I will actually get the money out or will that be a problem? Since I am already verified and link to a bank account once the 180 days have passed can I simply transfer the funds over to my checking account? This would be the simplest and least sloppiest way am I correct or will the fact that I have used a different name on PayPal be a problem (name on PayPal will not match my bank account name)?

webguy 04-14-2010 10:57 PM

It doesn't matter if the name on your bank account dosen't match that of your Paypal account.

Kk thanks. I was worried about that.
