Paypal phone call....interesting
 

I am nowhere near the 20k mark, but they are asking for Tax ID or EIN. It hasn't been limited, so I rang them up and said I wanted to close the account, trying to see if I could withdraw the last little bit.
He told me that if anyone even makes one penny worth of sales, they have to give SSN (uh, yeah right), and I couldn't withdraw until I did so.

I'm wondering if I leave this alone for 3 or 6 months, if the Tax ID request will go away, you know, wait until next year to use this account again. Like I said, I was nowhere near the 20k amount.

I know the 21 day hold comes and goes, and I've had them disappear automatically, I'm just wondering if this could go away as well. Any thought?

What amount have you reached? Is there a law in the usa as too when ssn has to be provided when receiving a limit of money from income? I think its 600 right?

You could leave it for 6 months alone and withdraw 100 dollars per week. I usually withdraw less than 150 on each paypal account Weekly.

technally they are right you are suppose to report every penny you make to Uncle Sam.. but im with Kingray on this one.. has to be something else triggering this

There is no way paypal said that if you make any amount they have to give SSN. If they said that then they are wrong. Yes you have to report the income but dont have to give PP anything unless they ask. Even if they ask they dont report anything to the IRS unless you hit the 20K/200item threshold.

As for letting the account sit. they are onto that and you will probably get the same request on the 1st sale next year. They ask at 5k or 40k. it just depends on them. If you dont give it to them this year you can probably count on getting it(request for SSN) very early next year then.
