Paypal Limited, Clever Scam, Beware

I have a reputable stealth account for over 1 year now. Limited paypal was removed after 90 days. After a couple of recent sales I get an email supposedly from paypal putting 21 day holds "AGAIN" for buyer protection, follow link for information. I just took the "whatever" attitude and said fine, I can wait 21 days. 1 week later I see that my PP account does not have limits.
There is a scammer out there trying to get to PP accounts. Not surprising, just wanted to give a heads up, don't click any links from emails...

That can be tough with paypal, because in ebay you know if the message is real or not by checking your ebay messages. Even if i get emails by paypal, they go to my phone and i delete them. I never even open paypal emails to direct me to the paypal site. If I want to go to a site I literally type it in. Safest and only way for anything these days.

Good advice - this has been seen by many.

It has been posted many times that you should never ever click on any links in an email.

If you need to you can copy and paste it into the URL instead.

I wouldn't even do that. Just go to PayPal through your browser. Type it in yourself and log in as normal. If you are limited, you will know just by logging in - they don't hide limitations behind a special link.

If you think that you may have typed your information into a bogus website, go to the real PayPal and change your password IMMEDIATELY.

There are crooked sites selling PayPal accounts for 5% of the balance. And they have PLENTY of available accounts! (I stumbled across a site when searching for PayPal information, I do NOT engage in such activity).

The OP stated that is his method.

It was a reminder to be aware of troubles.:D

I've been victimized through this method by a scammer.

rsot 03-17-2012 10:59 PM

That sucks to hear but hopefully was resolved?

GreenBean 03-17-2012 11:05 PM

Does suck.

But 9 times out of ten the email is a give away.

Hope you ever have that bad luck again :canada:

Appreciate the heads up! I do not click through links in emails, buy its a great reminder to tell friends and family. They are not as heads-up about these things!

Thank you!

Most of us know to go to that particular account first to see if this is legit.

My point was to let people know if they see this do not click on any link and if you know for sure it is legit then you need to be careful with it.

The answer is to go to that account directly and if it is legit then it will show on said pp account.
