Newbie here! Questions abount limited account

Hi everbody! Im so glad to come across you site!
I hope to gain much knowledge and do what I can for this site

I ran into a problem with Paypal. I do not have an Ebay account and Im located in South Korea. I just used my account for personal transactions.

However I tried to withdraw a little less than $1000 to my bank account and suddenly got flagged and limited with a negative balance. This is the first time ever it has happened in 4-5 years since I opened my accont.

Paypal has also put my balance in the negative eventhough I shipped the items out. Thing is I dont have tracking, wich is my fault, but I dont plan on paying paypal that high amount plus losing my stuff. I think there was fraudulant activity from the buyer who sent the payment and now paypal is coming after me. Crazy!

Anyway, there has been no "person" who filed claims against me to put my account in the negative, it was paypal who did it themelves.

My questions are..

1. I do not have a credit card linked to my account, just a bank account. The paypal investigation is still ongoing since they want me to fax info etc.
Do I have time and can I just simply close the bank account?
There is no funds in it at the moment anyway.

2. If I CAN close it, will paypal contact my bank and get my information/or force the bank to pay the debt owing?

Thanks for your help!!
Im now experiencing what many others had to face with using paypal and Ill be reading a lot more on here

If you close the bank account then they cannot take funds from it but that will not stop them trying to recover the debt through other means.

Welcome to the forums - you are getting good advice. All the best as you work it out.

Close the bank account = end of fund access. PP cannot contact bank for your debt - they will pursue you.

Thanks for the help
ok...Ill close it asap.
Now what information will paypal give collections? Just name address and phone number?

My name is real but address and cell phone have changed since I moved awhile after making an account. Will they only try and contcact me from the address and number on my paypal account OR will they dig deeper and investigate my current address through closed bank account bank records or SIN number? thanks

Depends on how much you actually owe them I guess.

crixus12 04-13-2012 04:58 AM

Under $1000

but if my address and number has changed do they have the ability to get that info from the bank where I closed the account from or through my social insurance number??

paypal will do what they want to try to get the money. There will be repeated efforts to get you.

Reduce their chances as advised previously.

Of course you should realize now that you will have problems using paypal again.

Did you think of that? :juggle:

Yeah I know I wont be able to use the account again. But what are the repeated efforts to be more specific? Just having the collections get on me? Do they ever file a claim or report with the police? Thanks again

The account can ever be used again correct.

Bu if you are thinking of usung paypal for a new account & sell your products you might have trouble. That's what I want you to realize.

Collections is their (usual) limit based on what you have said. Provided that is factual they will try collections. :juggle:

thx for all of the advice. You guys must contribute a lot to the forum. Thousands of posts
I will look into stealth for sure.

So do police ever get conacted by paypal if I keep avoiding and blowing off collections?
And yes the amount I stated is correct

errrr :shhh:

i would not of thought so but

meaning that its a sensitive subject and you should seek legal advice

close the bank, but for legal jargon, best to see a solicitor/lawyer who can give you accurate info on the matter

also best to deal with it one way or another if it was genuine info you used with paypal

If they have your real name the fact that you have moved to a new address and changed phone number will not stop them or a collection agent from tracing you.

No Im in Asia. Does being based in the U.S. change paypal policies?

GreenBean 04-13-2012 07:13 PM

Your question is answered.

You have a debt to paypal.

they will attempt to recover said debt.

They involve Collection agencies.

Take legal advice if you have more concerns.
