Well, despite my close monitoring of the situation I got the dreaded email requesting the SS#. The account is still functioning normally, but do not want to risk anything.

It is giving me 2 options, provide a SS# or convert to a business account and provide an EIN number.

Now, I have a valid SS# I can use (that has never been used on paypal before), however, it does not and will never match the name that is currently on the account. Does anyone know if this matters ? That is, do they compare the SS# and the name on the account in any way ?

Thanks in advance.

How can you call yourself Mr Stealth and have a real PP account?

I would NEVER have a real PP account again, EVER!

Why give them info to cause you harm?

I'll never understand why people come to a Stealth forum and want advice for legit accounts.

PP is not nice, don't play by their rules.

Set up business accounts like I do and don't give them crap.

Do you have a different EIN for each PP account? That would be insane, but I see no other option if you go the EIN route, correct? Then you have to have valid addresses to receive your 1099's. I have 9 accounts and none of the addresses are valid. How the hell do you do that?!

I just want to make sure I understand what you guys are talking about. So let's say they ask for SS# at 12K and 100 sales, from what I'm reading about 19K, I can still receive and do business on the account until I hit 19K and then they don't let you receive funds again, and the next year, you can start over receiving funds until 19K again? It sounds too good to be true, but I want to be sure. I have 5 PP accounts right now and toward the middle of the year, I will make a few more in order to further spread sales and try to avoid the SS# request. I appreciate an input on my question.

unfortunately when you receive the message for your ssn it will not stop until you give it to them. I was at 18500 when they limited me from receiving funds so i had to give it to them just to stay afloat for the rest of the year. Now im just under 20k for 2012.

Did you continue to sell even after they asked for it? I understand that they may keep asking for it, but if you don't give it to them, can you still receive funds up to a certain amount?

Once you are actually limited, meaning you can't accept funds or close your account, it will NOT start over at the beginning of the year. You either give it or move on.

Jury is still out on whether it starts over for accounts that have the request but are still going.

Even if paypal puts a NOOSE around your neck, never supply the SSN.

Regard the SSN as sacred.

Set up an EIN/LLC. That gives some protection.
paypal could never deserve to have your SSN.
IRS is different.

It's a nasty flag on the paypal account.

You will need to monitor closely what you do & do not do.

^^wish I had thought that one through a year ago. Gave 2 valid SS# for 2 of my accounts. TOTALLY regret it.

I did continue to sell until I was a couple hundred under the 20k limit (kept very close records of my transactions to see where im at). If you don't give them an ein or ssn they will not allow you to receive payments which would continue until you give it to them

Okay thanks for the info. I'm just going to keep selling carefully and if I get shut down, I am going to form a DBA and get an EIN.

I was actually limited last Mid Dec at 18.9k from closing the account or receiving funds for not providing a Tax Id. A few days ago after receiving my Dec PayPal statement my account was reinstated. I had about 600 payments received for 2012.

Look in your PayPal account drop down History, then Reports. It's all there.

Is this for US accounts only?

What will happen for a Canadian account?

If there's anything I know it's that we don't have to provide a SSN but i'm not too sure about the rest of it...

Default "paypal needs your feedback" Limited for SSN lifted or not

"we understand that your PayPal account may have been temporarily limited due to questions or concerns by out Accout Review team. thank you very much for your cooperation during this process. We are pleased that your account has now been reinstated.

As a part of Paypal's Commitment to excellence, we would like to ask yo to take just a few minutes to answer questions about PayPal's account limitation process.

To respond to our survey, please click on the web address below. If that does not work, please cut and paste the entire web address into the address field of your browser.

NOTE: Please respond within five days. After 5 days, this invitation will expire.

NOW...I was asked to submit my SSN after selling a certain amount, which I did not. A few months later I get this! Thinking everything was cleared after I did nothing at all, I went to my paypal account, logged in and although it didnt prompt me to the screen where they are asking for my SSN and you can do it now or later, It went straight to my regular paypal screen, but there it still had the banner that said paypal is asking for your SSN and to remove limitations on your account please provide it.

Was this some type of ⊗⊗⊗⊗ email?? I'm hoping tomorrow it will be gone but I doubt it.
