Funds in paypal gone after 2 years!

i had a paypal account that was suspended more then 2 years ago..there were funds in there about 1k and i was just going to wait the 180 days out..i totally forgot about this account until recently i was looking at my past accounts and remember i still had funds in this particular account.
I logged into my account, but the funds were not there! i checked the history transaction tab and there was no transaction either....anyone had this problem?
i have emailed them and awaiting an answer...

Two different scenarios, nobody'.

Overseas user blocked permanently by paypal. Had the limitation email. (paypal USA)

Balance of that account was 'fined' by paypal. Funds were taken out for no understandable reason.

Second scenario. USA based account. Balance got transferred to a reserve fund. Excuse was not enough info given to release funds.

Bottom line is it depends on the reasons for the 180 day limitation and their decision to stop doing business with an account holder. Different standards for each account.

Had this happen one time back in 2008. It wasn't a huge amount but I had a PayPal/eBay taken down. Only about $250 in it. But they refused to to release the funds after the 180 days then again after the 360 days. I just gave up on the funds after that.

However, if it is like US Banks. If there is any inactivity after like 2 years the funds go delinquent and are usually handed over to the the State that you live in or possibly stealth registered in.

I remember this because I have CD account I have had since I was like 10-12 and I never touch the money and every couple of years they send me notices saying if I don't sign a form claiming the account is still mine or whatever since I haven't had any activity they are forced by law to hand it over to my home state and I would have to go through some kind of process to recover the money after that.

So that very well could be what happened to it. You would have to read through PayPals long user agreement to find out more.

Have you tried calling/emailing PayPal for an explanation?

the account was suspended long ago and asking for id verification, supplier list, etc....but now all that requirements are gone...

Good luck. I just tickled my calendar for 180 days cause they got me for $400. Stings a bit. I kissed it GB, but it's worth a try.

Most likely, the funds were turned over to your state's unclaimed property division.

A couple years had passed on a PP account I had and all of a sudden, I get an email out of nowhere saying that if I didn't log into my account, they were turning the funds over to the state.

Needless to say, I promptly logged in and had access to my money and withdrew it.

@Stealth Assasin

You raise a valid point about keeping all info related to (even) old suspended accounts.

Well Done

Sometimes if a seller does not respond to the limitation, paypal does not start the 180 days period.
Then they might not get an email.

This is an important phenomenon to note - always keep track of your limited PP's (for future post readers)

Re: Funds in paypal gone after 2 years!

I know this is an old post but can you give an update on what happened? Did they respond to your email? And did you end up getting your money back?
