Paypal - something not to do that will get you limited
 

Hi,

Over a year ago, I had an account on paypal I was unable to verify to lift the $500 a month limit. In the end it had about $5000 and I called them to ask how to lift the limit as there was no way I could get a credit card (being a foreigner in this country). They told me there was no way and I would have to start another account.

I did this and couldn't wait 10 months to withdraw the first cash all back so I sent $1000 to myself. No problem so I did it again. Instantly I had both accounts locked and I had to wait 6 months before I was able to get the money back. I tried starting an account a few months later and had payments for 2 items before that got closed too so I suspect my name is blacklisted.

Just a tip as I've seen a few people talking about sending money to themselves.

Perhaps this should be made sticky as I'm sure someone would have written this somewhere else but it's not extremely visible and it's something I feel everyone should know. This forum has provided me with a lot of good information so this is something I give back.

A few simple pieces of advice. Never keep any balance in your paypal you are not willing to lose or have held at least 180 days. Never ship an item out until you have the payment physically in your hand, and make sure your paypal accounts have different info, if you are going to move money between them.

Yea I've figured that out now.. just a tip for some people saying they were gonna send money to themselves :)

What if they withold the funds until you ship the item then release the funds?

Yeah, we all figure that out some where along the way, unfortunately :(
If your funds are being held the best way is to minimize that chance in the first place by selling with a healthy ebay acct. And usually not all funds are held so immediately take out those that aren't held. As you sell more they will reduce the # of payments that will be held.

you should have just got a pre paid debit card

lol no one thinks like that when they first start out on ebay/pp

as far as anyone knows, you can sell til you die and mistakes anybody could make will be told not to do and get a warning perhaps.. not an instant indefinite lock

It's been 1 1/2 years almost since both those accounts were closed. I called paypal the other day to say it was an honest mistake and I will make them $50 plus a day in fees and I just want my accounts back.

If you follow these rules you should be ok. I never keep large amounts of money in my paypal at once so I dont worry about it.
