Proof of ID
 

Hi,

My account was limited a few weeks ago, I got PayPal to agree to release the funds before 180 days if I provided a proof of ID. I provided a provisional ID and a birth certificate but both were denied. I just received an email saying they would release the funds if I provide a passport.

I called in saying I only have an US Passport and they said they are an internation company and their Passport checker works with all passports.

My question is is this BS or do they actually have a passport checker

They can check the MRZ number along the bottom - there are a certain number of check digits which coincide with certain digits and information on the passport so don't try messing around with it unless you get the MRZ digits right :)

Thanks, so is it just a check to see if the passport or legitimate, or can they actually check the name attached to the passport?

Also have you had any experience with providing proof of ID for paypal

They will validate the passport number, expiry date and the DOB using the check digits in the MRZ.

They cannot check the name though, but they will need to be able to see it on the passport

Yh unfortunately they've learnt to read now. Will do some tinkering and I think i've figured out the MRZ number format.

Forgot to ask, do PayPal accept provisional licences or only drivers licences. As I'm trying to figure out where I fr**ked up with the original licence.

They accept either, it's still form of ID regardless of whether its a full or provisional licence.

I've submitted both types, work fine. I don't judge you for asking such a question considering how PayPal can sometimes be!

And I don't just you not judging me about asking about this as this has probably been asked a thousand and 1 times on this forum, so thanks for the help

was the provisional licence was the problem as I'm wondering why they didn't accept it in the first place now. -_-

Was this your official drivers license?

No provisional, but the edited. Have used it for all the other accounts but this is the first time I've edited with a last name shorter than 4 letters. I'm pretty sure I messed up with the ID number format.

Thats probably why they denied it.
