Problem adding EIN to Paypal
 

I'm having a problem adding the EIN to Paypal. Its been 15 days since I applied so I figured I would go ahead and do it, but this is what happens.

^I click on the notification when I first sign in to add my tax information, it takes me to that page, then

^after clicking on "I use my employer identification number", it takes me to that page, saying my account is limited so I can't upgrade to a business account, which I guess its automatically trying to do when adding the EIN. So I click go to resolution center,

^The only limitation is to confirm tax ID number.. lol. When I click Confirm from there, it just goes back around in a circle.
Any idea how to add the EIN a different way, besides calling? This is a stealth account.

It is because your account is limited... The EIN needs to be added before limitation or you get this circle. If you call paypal they will tell you a SSN# is required to fix it.

Call up paypal, sounds like you are stuck in a loop. A rep should be able to straighten it out for you. There might be more going on, on the account since this is happening. Regardless to get a clear picture of what is going on you might need to call in.

But why would I waste a EIN if the account wasn't going to do good? Its a fairly new account which is why I waited until they asked for the EIN

Is it possible to just send paypal a message through the message center explaining the problem rather than calling? I like to avoid calling lol.

Why not try, they'll probably just tell you to call in though :/

There were a lot of topics about this earlier this year if you search around, but I believe the general strategy is to call in and insist you are not comfortable using your SSN online and want to use your EIN instead-- it should be some back & forth but the rep should eventually budge and add your EIN for you manually and unlock your account.

Thanks for the reply. I have sent a email to them through the paypal message center. If they do reply that I need to call in, I guess thats my only option and I will do that. The only thing thats limited on the account is I can't close it, nothing else is going on with it so I guess thats a plus for now anyway.

You did the right thing by waiting for the request BUT sometimes this loop happens. I am guessing it is because you were actually limitted and could no longer accept funds.

I add the EIN or dont when the first request comes up before actually being limited.

But the account doesn't have any other limitations other than I can't close the account because they want a EIN or SSN. I just received payments today and they went through instantly without a hold

Call them is your only option.

Insist that your accountant does not want your SS on business stuff and they will add the EIN and you will be good to go.

Ok thank you. I will do that after I get a email back from them, just on the off chance they do help me through messages.

Any update? I am getting the same error loop.... I was asked 5 days ago to add my tax infor.
