Need to provide TAX info, but I'm not a US citizen
 

I've been using this account since 2011(I'm hungarian), and today I received an email from paypal saying that I have to provide tax info. I'm sure I didn't reach the 200/20k mark. Is there anything I can do to not lose my money? I have around $750 in my account, never had more than this. I tried to send this amount to a different paypal address, but I refunded it because it's probably too much to send in one go.

What should I do?

Another question: if it ends up getting limited, what can I do with my account? I guess nothing right?

I assume this is a US PayPal?

If so you will need a TIN

It is a US PayPal account. What's a TIN? As I've said I'm hungarian, so I'm pretty sure I can't get a TIN, whatever it might be.

I've also looked up the amount of transactions I had this year and it's 170, but that's all of them, maybe half of those were goods and services. The revenue from these transactions should be around 6-7k max.

A TIN is what a Non-US citizen can apply for when they are asked for their tax ID by PayPal so you would be able to get one

I see, thank you. Does the tax limit reset? As I've said I haven't reached the limit yet and I read somewhere that if you don't provide the required info, you're account will be limited(can't receive or request money and you can't close your account) and you have to wait until the beginning of the next year to be able to use it again. Is this true?

Yes, this is true, (for us paypal accounts). But you can usually spend, send & withdraw money, you just cant receive money or payments. Sometime after the new year, not automatically on jan1st, but within 30-60 days the limitation disappears. You won't receive an email or any other notice telling you the limitation is lifted, The Little notification on the upper right hand corner on your PayPal account will be gone & the account will function again.

Thanks for the explanation, I had a similar problem, my account is no limited and fully functional. I only sold 135 items for 7000 usd. I have 7000 usd in that account and now asked for tax info.

I was aske that information before the new year in november. it has been new year and limithas not been lifted. My question is, Should i call paypal?

Or should i just wait?
