PP Personal to Business Upgrade/Stealth Limits
 

Sorry if these are basic questions but I am not able to find the answer....

1) An established PERSONAL PP account that is SSN verified with a spouses name. Started using this PP on an Ebay Selling account that took off way beyond expectations. At what point will PP require an upgrade to a business account? The business info is all in my name not my spouse.

I have a less established PP account in my personal name that I could upgrade to a business account but I'm not sure how to link this newer account to Ebay without incurring suspicions and limits - any thoughts on best practices here?

2) With a Stealth PP account - what are the amount/transaction limits to the account before they ask for a SS or EIN? How do you work with this?

And how less establish is less?
If your using all valid information, u shouldn't worry because you can verify with paypal if u need to call them some day.

The limit is the same on stealth or real PP accounts: if PP projects you will do more than 200 transactions or 20K a year you will have to provide an EIN or SSN so they can send a 1099-K to the IRS if you cross the 20K total.

You say they have been given a SSN, so you don't need to upgrade to a business account, they have the info they need to send an 1099-K so you're done.

HOWEVER:

If they send a 1099 to the IRS, and the name on the PP doesn't match the SSN on file with the IRS, it will be rejected because of the mismatch.

PP will then freeze the account and the EB and PP both will be toast.

I have noticed that once a pp account pulls in over $2000 in a given month, then it gets limited until a SSN or EIN gets added. I usually take care of this when I see that this threshold might be reached, rather than after the limitation occurs. The limitation can usually be avoided by adding the tax number ahead of time.
