Can I add an EIN previously used?

Hey guys I have a question and I am not quite sure I have ever seen this touched upon in the forums. I had an eBay and PayPal account back in 2013 and the eBay had gotten shut down. Because I did not know any better at the time I thought the PayPal was useless and I simply closed the PayPal account. This paypal account was in good health with no issues. This PayPal account had an EIN attached to it, and the EIN is still an active corporation today. I wanted to know if I can safely use it on another paypal account. Thank you to all who respond and can help me out.

Thank you for your reply. Have you ever tried doing what I am describing before and gotten linked? I ask because I was thinking since I closed this account myself, would I get my PayPal shut down if I opened a new account using the same EIN? Wouldn't it look like I'm just using the same corporation on a new pp account? I know this EIN is forever in paypals database but would it constitute a ban or limitation if i use it again?

I don't think I have ever come across someone trying this to be honest.

While it would no doubt link you, you may well not get limited right away.

If no one else has ever tried it before then the only way to know is to give it a blast yourself! :thumb:

Ha yes I think most of us try to avoid it if we can!

If you happy to risk the account though no harm in giving it a shot!

Is it an EIN to a LLC or to just a sole priority tax id? If its just a regular ein not an llc you will eventually get a message from paypal stating your ein does not match the name on your paypal account. Assuming the paypal account you are talking about is a stealth account.

It is an EIN attached to a corporation.

I have attached a different EIN (also attached to a corporation) to a different stealth account before and never had PayPal message me about a name not matching. The business info for that different pp account matches with my EIN, but the personal info is "stealth"

I think as long as the business info matches up you are good to go

I don't mind experimenting. Unfortunately I am asking because one of my accounts got its first Tax ID notice and the item I have listed is selling really well. I was hoping I could just add my EIN and keep on going, but this is a good account that I do not want to risk. 100% positive feedback and a lot of money still in PP that needs to be withdrawn

Hey OP,

If you plan on experimenting this method, please post your periodic results here or let me know your results with periodic updates.

Although my issue isn't 100% similar to you, it's somewhat related. I've had a 10+ yr non stealth that got hit with over a hundred listings pulled (not by vero). I even tried listing other remotely related listings and those got pulled as well. I ignorantly opened a new account and listed there and those got pulled too (probably linked). Surprisingly no known limitation or penalty is on that account. This was before I found this forum and bought the e-book.

So I'm starting a stealth and plan to run it alongside my no penalty non-stealth, since my non-stealth still makes some sales. It would be great if I was able to use the same EIN.

If you don't want to risk it I would get a new EIN then

No, won't work.

Meaning, as others have told you, it will be closed down at some point.

I added the EIN to this account to see what happens. I am going to wait a week before making any sales to see what happens. I will let you guys know if I get limited.

Re: Can I add an EIN previously used?

I can tell you exactly what will happen, because I've done it.

IF you cross the 20K limit they will report the data to the IRS on a 1099K attached to that EIN, and the IRS will send PP a notice that your name and EIN don't match.

PP will notify you, and if you don't correct it in X number of days, the PP & attached EB are toast.

If you don't cross the 20K limit, a bot may or may not turn it up, now that it's in the system. Over time the chances the bot finds it go up.

But this is a lot of typing, which is why I usually say "No, won't work".

If you want to be a squashed guinea pig, try it...

Otherwise, avoid doing it.

Stealth needs new info to never link you to the old.

I will let you know when I get squashed :help:

Proper stealth techniques are the foundation to good business. But this EIN is just sitting around, if I can squeeze some sales out for a period of time I'm willing to see how long they let me go.
