How do chargebacks work exactly? (for the seller)
 

Let's say a buyer initiates a chargeback on your account for the payment he made to your PayPal with a credit card. How does it work? Is it between your buyer and PayPal at that point? Or does PayPal try to get a hold of your bank to pass it onto you

In that case, what if the PayPal is not linked to anything? (i.e. the attached credit card and bank accounts were closed). Does PayPal foot the bill and pass it to collections? Etc

My PayPal was closed recently and I removed/closed all the attached accounts. I don't expect (or rather, I hope that no buyers feels the need to initiate) any chargebacks on my account, but I'm just curious what would happen in these situations if they did.

When you remove all payment methods from PayPal, they still remember them, so if you will not pay, they will attempt to charge your bank and credit card anyway. If these payment methods do not work - they will send this to collection agency.

They never forget anything. You may have removed it, but it's in their records.

They'll be sending you to collection, and they may try to take it from that previously attached account anyway.
