How to properly decline PP request for documentation

So when Paypal hits you with a "soft" limit (where you can continue to receive payments but can't withdraw), and you need to provide documentation by x/y/z date, it's my understanding that the 180d countdown begins either after 1) you provide documentation but it fails to meet their requirements, or 2) you formally decline to provide documentation they requested.

In other words, the 180d countdown does not begin the day of the soft limit, nor does it begin if you fail to respond to their request for documentation by x/y/z. You need to either formally decline, or you provide documentation which fails and thus auto-triggers the countdown. Right?

So my question is: is there any preferred way to decline their request? Via phone, obviously, but any specific protocol to follow to ensure $ is received after 180d?

Are you asking so you can start the 180 day countdown?

Yeah, don't care to play the documentation game with them.

Typically, the 180 days begins once you receive the email from that stating your account has been limited or you can't use PayPal anymore, etc.

Just be aware that in some instances just because 180 days has passed doesn't mean you will be able to get your money automatically. PayPal has been known to request and confirm your ID before they will allow your withdrawal.

is there any... way to decline their request?

That's very funny. You have a successful career as a comic, right? :)

Give them what they want and they may release your funds earlier, or don't and you wait 180 days and maybe STILL have to give them the docs they want to get your money - just as Nickopedia said.

In the future NEVER leave any significant money in your PP account and you won't have to worry about this.

The soft limit is when they limit your account until they hear from you, which still allows payments to come in. A hard limit is where they cut off everything out and in until they get the documents. And a permanent limitation is the 180 account closure.

In my experience they either accept or deny the documents you submit. If they are denied, they start the 180 day process from that denial e-mail date. If they are accepted, back to business and work on getting that $ out.

They can ask you to provide the documentation when you go to withdraw the money, but unless you're near the 20k threshold it is less likely.

You can submit an image/pdf/etc stating that you decline to submit your private information to them and to just close your account and remit the outstanding balance to you as soon as possible. Typically that will get you to the unaccepted documents stage and start your 180 day clock.

Remember one thing PayPal do not always release your funds after 180 days if they think it’s dodgy so my advice to you is get creative and provide them what they want.
