Can PayPal retrieve your name from bank account number
 

Hey for stealth accounts,

Basic question but can't find an answer anywhere. Maybe you guys know the answer. If I link a bank such as Bank of America. And using routing and account number to link it on PayPal can PayPal go out of their way to retrieve my real name from that account number or are they not allowed to do that?

No, they cannot.

Banks dont even like to share your info with other banks. They definitely dont want to share with some other company thats no more of a financial institution than your local Dairy Queen.

Unless subpoena or criminal investigation goes on...then there will be a legal document that bank can act upon (just saying)

But if you link your bank with the 2 small deposits method, doesn't PP get to see the name on the account when it pulls the money back after a day or so..?

I recall some threads on here from a loooong time ago claiming that PayPal called their bank to find out the name on the account.

I call B.S. on that mainly because of the above. Banks are notoriously secretive and won't even share info with other banks, let alone with a 3rd party like PayPal.

The only logical (and legal) way for that to happen is via a subpoena or court order. I have a friend who works in the executive division of a large bank, and they absolutely need some kind of official paperwork to give out information like that.

The only other way the name on the account can be revealed to PayPal is via the ACH pull (debit) from the account, or when they retrieve the two small deposits during verification.

Even if the name doesn't match, and they are aware of it, it's speculative if they even act on it unless a manual review is done. If they did, then every stealth account out there would have a problem.

Chances are that was in reference to PP pulling funds from the bank account in which case they can see the mismatch
