Bringing my computer in for servicing, should I be worried about what's on it??

My Macbook won't turn on and I have to take it to the store tomorrow. I'm concerned because I have so many vba's and fabricated id's on there and I don't want them to get the wrong idea. Any advice? Thanks.

Kind of standard it seems these days - there are actually a few stories of how some of these p*dophiles get caught these days when they get their computer serviced...

I wouldn't worry, what are they doing to your Computer?

Unless you're Pablo Escobar doubt it will be serious.

Hmmm.... I wouldn't worry about. If anything, maybe make a folder within folder and I think there's a way you can lock that folder with a password so that only you can view it?

True, but Pablo probably either hid a kilo of blow, or a Million dollars in the Computer and forgot about it.

Just a tip:
Everything that is Stealth, I have it on an external 1TB Drive....VMWares, Portable Browsers, Pictures, everything.

That's actually a good idea. But I'm just too lazy to have an extra hardware.

Re: Bringing my computer in for servicing, should I be worried about what's on it??

I wonder though, what if we have a passworded folder where no one can see or even a 2nd user account where all the stealth are that are passworded.

I figure that the tech only need access to the main user account.

I am paranoid. Lots of unscrupulous people out there. If I cant fix it, then I take it to back yard with ax, chop it into pieces and then bonfire. I have done it on 3 laptops.

Jeez. What are you doing to your laptops to brick them before axing them? Using them in the bathtub? :bounce:

I just take out the hard drive + RAM for later use, and throw dead laptop in green trash bin lol.

It died on me. Needs a new logic board and lcd. I ended up just taking out the hard drive before bringing it in.

I'm not familiar with external hard drives. You run your computer from the external drive? You don't use separate user accounts?

Just back it up and then format it.

The external drive holds all my stealth data, which includes my VMWares. My Computer's Hard Drive does not have any stealth information saved on it.

No, I use VMWare on my desktop.

Re: Bringing my computer in for servicing, should I be worried about what's on it??

If you dont know how to fix. Go buy the same laptop and then swith out the hard drive. That’s the simple way for you. Bringing laptop with sensitive info on it for service is not a good idea. It makes you worry a lot more in your whole life.

Re: Bringing my computer in for servicing, should I be worried about what's on it??

Here is what I do.

All my sensitive files and data is on an external USB drive. It's NOT a bootable volume. That way the machine only has the OS and essential apps. Keep your user data and personal files off the computers internal hard disk when possible.
