Selling $1700 Camera

Hey guys , so Im about to sell a sony a7iii on ebay, my paypal and ebay are pretty strong and recently paypal limtied my paypal and asked to submit my ID, which I did, and now its unlimited

Re: Selling $1700 Camera

Impossible to estimate the chance without a lot more info about the selling history on your PP account. If you're an established seller with hundreds of successful transactions then you won't have any problems selling the camera. At least not on the eB/PP side.. you'd still have to worry about someone trying to scam you.

Re: Selling $1700 Camera

phaz is right on - and even when money comes in, if your pp is in good standing, don't drain the account unless you have strong history of withdrawals.

Yeah, exactly.

I'd probably do local pickup only but then who knows if it would ever sell.

Different items, different experiences...congrats on having the success but it's not always smooth for everyone

Re: Selling $1700 Camera

If the PayPal is solid and had prior history of such transactions, you are unlikely to have any problems.

Re: Selling $1700 Camera

Do local pick up with cash only.
Use ebay just to get the traffic and make the sale but do NOT trust paypal to hold your money.

If you are that worried about getting your funds limited / item stolen (Justifiably so)
then do not let them handle your money outside of their fees for the transaction.

Because if you get a douche of a buyer, your item, money will be gone and you better believe that paypal and ebay will have their fees.

Re: Selling $1700 Camera

that much of an item, have to be careful selling on ebay because of the scam possibility. I would not sell that item on a brand new account.

I'd really vet the buyer / winner of the auction.
Have real photos, etc ready .

But I agree with CJ, I'd try to sell that locally for peace of mind and you might even get a better deal. Specially without the cut you;d have to give ebay if you were to sell there.

Re: Selling $1700 Camera

There is a chance they will limit you again and ask for SSN due to the amount; however I think the amount would still need to be higher (perhaps $2000 range). But just wanted to throw that out there as a warning. If you already have the SSN attached, I think you could sell without an issue.

Re: Selling $1700 Camera

Are you on drugs? 85% you get a good customer and 15% you get scammed. In 5 1/2 months this buyer can say "i only receive empty box" or some nonsense and next summer you get back a broken camera and lose $1700. Anyhting over $150-200 is way to risky on crimEbay.

Check "feedback left for others" very carefully. If the buyer is a guy like you (another photographer) then it would be a good sale. If the buyer is NOT a photographer then you are getting scammed.

I'll take the camera if you ship internationally, how much do you want for it

Re: Selling $1700 Camera

there is a good chance the transaction will go smoothly, but a small chance you might get someone trying to pull a fast one on you. I have sold cameras before on ebay and generally the transactions were smooth, but on one of them I got a buyer who was complaining I was the one trying to scam him saying the camera was not as described and saying basically what i sent him was a junk camera, which was complete b.s. he wouldn't even send the camera back saying it was not worth the postage.

eBay hasn't allowed T/T payments in a looooooong time.

It is.

Yet, our accounts are still most desirable to non-US residents for whatever reason..

Side note : you can still accept wire transfer payments on germany ebay?

Re: Selling $1700 Camera

Americans are consumers and there's a lot of Americans, so it's only natural that people go to where the sales are.

phaz0rz 12-14-2018 03:17 PM

Re: Selling $1700 Camera

But USA accounts are next to impossible for non-American's to run, and you're able to make listings on eBay.com from any country.

I've never understood the desire for USA accounts. I think it's a lack of understanding in many cases. I'm an American myself and I don't prefer American accounts lol.

When I sell a high priced item I video record the entire process of me packing and putting a label on the parcel. Of course this isn't a guarantee that you wont get ripped off but if you do that, let it be known, and even put some screen shots of the video, I am sure it will deter a good amount of scammers. They will just find the same item from someone else who is an easier target.
