WF is down - it's probably not a good idea to withdraw to your WF accounts

Wells Fargo is down worldwide, apparently. From what I've read on downdetector everything is down including online banking, debit cards, mobile banking, even in-person banking. The tellers at the banks can't even get into your account currently.

So I just wanted to point out that if you're using a WF account, you probably shouldn't initiate any withdrawals until their system comes back online. It could result in a rejected bank transfer which will usually get your bank account removed from your PP. And it's becoming a lot harder to add bank accounts.

If anyone has had any experiences since the outage started I would love to hear about it.

As a side not BBT is merging with Suntrust. Curious if the name will go independently from each other or something else

It's totally down and people are flipping out on Twitter & FB. I tried my Business Platinum debit card a few minutes ago as a test and it was declined.

This is not good.

If I may speculate, all signs are pointing to a hack. (thanks a lot h4ck, you're a dick) So far the official story from WF's PR team is that the fire suppression system at a data center in Minneapolis has taken out literally their entire infrastructure.

Considering that even a small local credit union would have redundant hot-swappable backups in multiple cities, it sounds to me like they're trying to cover something up. There's just no way their entire system runs off of one data center in one city. Banks and hospitals have Cloudflare level redundancy x10.

Even if Wells Fargo disappeared entirely I would think debit card transactions would continue to process since those are handled by Visa/MC who have their own records of your account balances. It's strange that not even debit cards are working.

If anyone needs to access money from them today or pay for something, people on Twitter are saying your card won't decline if you run it as credit. But there's no telling how long that will work.

UPDATE : Online banking site appears to be working now, but you can't do anything there.

Account balances are showing but I can't click on any of my accounts to see if withdrawals have posted today.
