Is this a Paypal scam?

I received a Paypal payment "You've got money" which was quite a significant amount of money. Shortly after I received an email asking me to refund the payment via Paypal.

My concern is, if the payment was sent using a stolen account or credit card and I made the refund would I then be responsible for the payment if the account was stolen?

If you issue a refund then the refund will go back to the same payment method.

Have you signed in to PayPal to verify this?

Sounds like phisihing emails.

Yes. I have checked my account and the money is there. So is safe to carry out the refund payment option?

Yep fine to refund. Weird one though...

Make sure to refund via the transaction itself

I made the refund, not even a thank you from the person.
