BOA reopens accounts???
 

I heard that BOA will reopen a closed savings or checking account automatically if something is debited from it. Has anyone experienced this? I want to make sure that after I close a BOA account, ebay or paypal will not be about to charge my account and it be reopened.

I have had MANY BOA Accounts for MANY ebay/paypal accounts.
I have never seen this happen to any account that I have left a "amount due" on a dead eBay/paypal account.

Well, I've heard that they do. A friend of mine closed her BofA account, and when something happened to one of the checks she had deposited way back (non-PayPal related), BofA charged her a cancelled check fee and reopened her account. I'm guessing if you owe them money, they'll reopen your account.

Of course, I heard this from a friend, and we all know how reliable those "my friend's friend" stories are. :laugh:

Yea, Ive only heard of that happening with checks. But thanks for the feedback. I just closed a BOA account and I didnt pay my feebay fees, lol.

What happens is that a check account is closed subject to any outstanding transactions being finalized. So if there is an unpresented check for $200 then that much money has to stay in the account to cover it. With our friend paypal, the transactions can be in cyberspace & still get presented to the account after its closure. Up to the person closing the account to make sure of this.

Does this kinda thing only happen within 90 days or 6 months of account closing?

Each of the US banks has a different time allowance. The big name banks normally have the 90 days. Smaller banks, credit unions may have a longer period. It depends on the bank and the relationship the customer has had with them. In other posts I have recommended that if a bank account is closed, it be done at a branch: the customer can get the name of a staff member, discuss what exaclty might happen: in other words decrease the chance of unexpected charges. It is a form of 'insurance' to do it this way. If an account was correctly closed, why should the former customer be made to pay bank charges?
