vigilantex69 | 04-28-2019 11:26 AM | PayPal Item Not as Described Help Ok so I sold an item through craigslist. No eBay. Spoke with the buyer via email and such, he sent payment via Goods and Services, I shipped out used Pyapal to print a shipping label and everything. There was even a hold on it, was released when the item was delivered. Now I get an email 2 days later that it doesn’t work and he wants all his money back. He wants to return it, he paid over $1000.00 for it. I already stated all sales are final and I’m absolutely sure I’m getting scammed here. I haven’t even responded to his emails but my guess is he will open an item not as described dispute via PayPal?
This is the first time in 8+ years that this has happened to me? What will PayPal do? I remember in the past, PayPal would not get involved with items not being as described, they would only verify that things were delivered? Have they change their policy on this?
If he files a dispute what will they do? Will they make him ship the item back? Will they get involved any further than that? I absolutely did not scam this guy under any circumstances, and I fear I’m getting scammed myself. I had hoped he would pay via friends and family but he paid via goods and services.
Again I used to not worry because PayPal used to only get involved when things were not delivered. Have they changed how they handle disputes and such now? |
Re: PayPal Item Not as Described Help They will let the buyer return the item, and you will issue the refund. |
vigilantex69 | 04-28-2019 11:57 AM | Re: PayPal Item Not as Described Help Is there any way around this??? Ugh I’m furious now. Hence why I should ONLY do friends and family from now on. |
SaiJin | 04-28-2019 12:14 PM | Re: PayPal Item Not as Described Help Do you happen to have the guy's number? |
vigilantex69 | 04-28-2019 12:33 PM | Re: PayPal Item Not as Described Help No, it was all through email. I didn’t think PayPal did the “item not as described” nonsense |
nickopedia | 04-28-2019 12:44 PM | Re: PayPal Item Not as Described Help Your "terms" don't matter, EVER.
You always play by PayPal's rules as per their User Agreement.
You MUST accept the return. If you fight it, you will lose and risk the buyer keeping the item and you will be out your money. |
vigilantex69 | 04-28-2019 12:46 PM | Re: PayPal Item Not as Described Help Man **** that I’m about to just withdraw the money and close the PayPal account |
agent006140 | 04-28-2019 02:19 PM | Re: PayPal Item Not as Described Help There is no seller protection for item not as described, buyer will be asked to return the item at his own expense.
You should be gracious and accept his return.
if item is good, you will be able to sell it again. |
agent006140 | 04-28-2019 02:21 PM | Re: PayPal Item Not as Described Help if you sell something and paid under F & F,IT IS CALLED FEE AVOIDANCE.
IT DOES NOT STOP THE BUYER FROM FILING CHARGEBACK,his cc issuer may allow him to keep the item and the money and you will be slapped $20 chargeback fee. |
Leader2dark | 04-28-2019 02:59 PM | Re: PayPal Item Not as Described Help YOU ARE SUNK. END OF STORY. I would fully expect a scam as well. At the very least, you will be losing shipping costs, time, etc. |
agent006140 | 04-28-2019 03:32 PM | Re: PayPal Item Not as Described Help Next time, ask for money order or postal order or wiretransfr, not paypal |
vigilantex69 | 04-28-2019 05:02 PM | Re: PayPal Item Not as Described Help Screw it, it’s a stealth account I’m withdrawing the money if he files a claim I’ll walk away. I’m furious I made this mistake, in the past PayPal didn’t get involved unless it was for item not received?? |
vigilantex69 | 04-28-2019 05:03 PM | Re: PayPal Item Not as Described Help I’m not going to get scammed out of $1200, and I paid a PayPal fee on top of it all. Can I just withdraw the money and close the PayPal account? |
agent006140 | 04-28-2019 05:25 PM | Re: PayPal Item Not as Described Help Paypal always have item not as described cases, where have you been>
There is also UA -unauthorised activity, when the cc owner claimed it aint him using the card to make purchase.
You better brush up on Paypal policies.
If the buyer has not filed a dispute with Paypal and there is no hold on the payment ,of course you can withdraw.
but if he does file, your Papal account wil go from zero to negative and Papal will ask you to bring the account to neutral/ |
agent006140 | 04-28-2019 05:27 PM | Re: PayPal Item Not as Described Help it is only speculation he is going to scam you, plenty of people return the goods in good order.
why dont you pick up the phone and call, you can gauge better that way, google and see if you can find his phone number |

It protects you as a buyer just in case the seller is sending you a f@ke item. Wouldn't you be happy if you're the buyer in that case? :)
With regards to withdrawing the funds, it's all up to you. If your conscience is clean, that you really sent the 'described' item. Then it's good. Good luck. |
vigilantex69 | 04-29-2019 08:31 AM | Re: PayPal Item Not as Described Help He’s definitely going to scam me, he sent an email within minutes of receiving the item. He was super friendly and everything was great and good to go and was packaged perfectly, then all of a sudden immediately by the time that thing was on his doorstep he was emailing me wanting a refund |

if item is as described, accept the return.
Buyers often want to return as they find cheaper elsewhere or try to resell and no taker or just buyer remorse.
if you can get his phone number, best is to call him, |
Leader2dark | 04-29-2019 09:35 AM | Re: PayPal Item Not as Described Help How are you withdrawing money from paypal? Bank? Then paypal already has your real info. You can try and run, not sure it will work out well. | All times are GMT -5. The time now is 06:19 AM. | |
