Has anyone created a stealth paypal cash account?
 

Paypal now has this annoying feature. It does not bother me much except sometimes when buying labels the paypal authorization wont go through. Have any of you had success attempting to open the cash account with stealth info?

Yeah.. but only 3 of the 5 reasons they list on the website would be something you could do yourself. And even then it would be really hard and expensive, lol.

Your a smart guy Phaz0rz I wonder how I could find out if I used my SSN with Paypal before I doubt I did since I was 19 at that time and didn’t sell much

I got the dreaded e-mail tonight...it has the registered stealth name (not mine) and, in a real violation of what I thought was their policy, a link to a logon page (a favorite tactic of phishing attacks). I logged on instead without the link but don't see the "Notifications" area they referenced anywhere.

The account is a business account, about 12 years old now, and if I read the e-mail correctly they're saying I can either supply (unspecified) identity info by 6/13 to keep doing things like automatic payments or paying for eBay items, or not provide the info but still be able to transfer out to a bank account or pay eBay fees with it.

So it SOUNDS like if I don't give them the info they won't let me buy eBay or outside-eBay items using it, though I could still do those via some linked card or something (maybe reloadable?)

I really resist giving them something like an SSN. This is an area where we need government regulation, as the problem with data collection of this sort is that data can be used for other, unauthorized or even unanticipated purposes once it's out there. They could just decide to pull a credit report, for example, even though that's none of their business. PayPal is asking for a level of trust here that I don't believe they've earned.

Also, if they're doing this to CUSTOMERS then I can see some balking and only potential negative effects, as even a small percentage of runoff is that much less. Which would shoot eBay in the foot. Oh, well, I needed to curb my own buying on eBay anyway. Could an unintended consequence be more runoff to Amazon? Or will everyone have to offer the new-payments-experience on eBay? I don't see anything positive coming out of this.

There is no such thing as a "stealth" PayPal Cash account.

The whole point is to confirm the identity as being an actual, real person. This means providing your SSN for this verification.

Several of my accounts have seen this email already. Here are the two choices:

Option 1: Keep a PayPal balance
Click Confirm Your Info, or log into your PayPal Business account and click the Notifications icon at the top of the page, then follow the instructions. You only have to do this once and then you can keep using your balance the way you always have. This will also ensure that any automatic payments like subscriptions, installment plans, recurring payments, and even occasional purchases from certain businesses, will continue to be paid from your balance.

Option 2: Don't keep a PayPal balance
If you choose not to confirm your identity by June 13, 2019, you won't be able to spend or send money from your balance. Instead, you can log into your PayPal Business account whenever you receive money and transfer the funds to your bank. These transfers can be completed in about a day for free or in minutes for a 1% fee ($10 max).

If you have other automatic payments in place that are not related to eBay, we'll charge the alternate payment method linked to your account—like a card or bank account—instead of your PayPal balance.

If you don't have another payment method linked, or you have one that's about to expire, it's easy to add one. Click Link a Bank or Card or log into your account, go to the Money tab, and follow the instructions for linking a payment method.

Helps protect a stealth account.
