Will paypal take money from unlinked bank account??
 

Hi so I sold a concert ticket thru one of those re-sell sites (my first time and a big mistake). Well something went wrong and buyer disputes they got the ticket right before the concert. I was traveling and not monitoring my email that weekend. They say there’s nothing I can do because the concert passed.

In the end the site gave buyer a new ticket and want to charge me for that new ticket.

The ticket I sold was for $300 the replacement ticket the site found and wants me to pay for was $1000.

So I’ve been trying to fight it but don’t think it’s gonna work. I unlinked my bank account on PayPal.

If I end up having to pay that’s fine (very sucky but I’ll be a grown up about it), but I would prefer my account to go negative and pay a bit at a time and not taken from my bank account all at once. Very worried I won’t have enough money for my rent if this money is just taken out of nowhere. Please help!

Will PayPal just take the money directly from bank account even though I unlinked bank account?

They'll most likely just put your account into the negative.

Account will go in to negative. You'll be able to settle it bit by bit, don't worry.

The state of the account and your relationship with paypal afterwards though ? ... isn't looking great. But then you always have stealth anyway.

Okay I really hope so.

It does feel like I got scammed with this whole situation so I might just stay away from stuff like this and PayPal for a while. So losing the account won’t be that big of a hit.

Okay thanks! I really hope so. I’ve been super paranoid I would wake up with $1000 gone from my account it’s actually been giving me anxiety.

Ya buddy they will just put your account negative if you don’t have the funds or a bank account linked wouldn’t hurt calling Paypal and explaining your situation and say your going to pay the amount back overtime this might help shed some light on your situation and let Paypal know your not jumping ship and will help possible keep your account in decent shape Incase you ever want to come back to selling later

Okay that’s great advice. Thanks. So should I reach out now even though the charge hasn’t posted to PayPal or wait so they can see the charge and know what I’m talking about?

first you sold a ticket for $300,did the site send you $300?
now they gave your buyer a new ticket and want you to pay $1000/
They cannot just take money from your Paypal or bank account,all they can do is reverse the $300 they paid you if thjey have paid you already.
or send you a paypal money request $1000 ,it is up to you t o pay or not.
I dont see how they can access your bank account or your Paypal account

Yeah so I sold the ticket and sent it in the mail in March got the money from the sale in early April but the buyer waited until two days before the concert to say the package I delivered didn’t contain the ticket (a lie).

The company is saying because I didn’t respond to their email about the dispute they gave the buyer a new ticket (which cost $1000) so I have to pay for that. I’ve argued with these people over the phone the last few days but they’re saying because the concert passed there’s nothing that can be done. They don’t want the money back from my sale but for me to pay for the replacement ticket.

They don’t have access to a card or bank account but their records should have my PayPal because that’s what I used to deposit the money from the sale.

I feel like I have no way of stopping them from charging the $1000 to my PayPal so that’s what I’m worried about.

There is no way to charge your paypal,they can send you a money request and ask you to pay,you dont have to/
what you lose is you wont be able to sell tickets thru them anymore.
They should not send tickets without your consent,and how do you know they sent the tickets?

Hey okay this is interesting.

So they told me because I didn’t respond to the initial email about the dispute they had to give the buyer a new ticket so they could attend the concert. Again this all happened 2 days before the concert I really wasnt given enough time to learn about the situation. The buyer was sent an electronic ticket.

I didn’t see the email till the day after the concert (so 3 days after the email was sent to me). And I really do blame myself but the email address I used was a spam account so the emails don’t come to my phone and I just check when I think about it.


There is an email with the money request from the company, but it’s worded like they’ll take it out of whatever card or PayPal account they have on file. Luckily they don’t have my card but they do have my PayPal.


“We have issued the charges below in order to cancel your original payment and cover any additional expenses incurred in resolving this issue for the customer. If additional expenses were incurred, the amount below may be greater than your original payment amount...

If you have been remitted payment for this order already, the original payment amount may be recouped via PayPal or by charging the card on file.”



But even if they don’t charge my PayPal wouldn’t they just send it to a collection agency and go after my credit?

A couple of things.
First off - they cannot charge your bank account if it is not attached.
Second - all they will access to is any funds that THEY sent to YOU. They are NOT able to just charge your account $1000. All they can do is file a chargeback for the original amount they sent to you. So no they cannot just take $1000 out of nowhere just cause they decide that's what they want to do.
They cannot just charge you anything on your paypal account - they do not control paypal.
The ONLY option they have available is to chargeback anything sent to you by them. And that sort of chargeback you can fight as well.
Other than that they'll have to take you to court to get that money out of you. And I don't see that happening over that amount.

yes,if they file item not received with Paypal for the $300,you have no online viewable tracking from a commercial carrier,you will lose .
but there is no way to get 1000 back from you via Paypal except by sending you a Paypal invoice or money request which you can just ignore.
As for going to court,I doubt it,is it in the contract that you have to pay ?The proper way of handling this for them is to refund the buyer $300 and come after you for the $300.
I doubt they pay $1k for the ticket,do they have any proof they gave the buyer tickets and they paid 1k ?
do not reply to any future email from them.
