Please confirm your U.S taxpayer status - Canadian Paypal
 

Hi, I have a Canadian paypal (stealth) account, but most of my sales are from the US.

Today, I received an email from paypal asking to confirm US tax payer status.

I did 147 transactions and under 20k so far. My address is also in Canada not in the US.

Do I provide the real address or the stealth address I have on paypal?

That's interesting because according to paypal help center you should be at least USA citizen:
"This information must be provided for U.S. PayPal accounts and may also be required for account holders outside of the United States (if the holder of a non-U.S. account is a U.S. person)."
And then they say:
"Non-U.S. person/entity
Customers who exceed the reporting thresholds ($20,000 USD and 200 transactions) set by the IRS will be asked to confirm their U.S. taxpayer status. If you are not a U.S. citizen or U.S. entity, you’ll be asked to certify that you’re not subject to U.S. income tax in our online form."

So if you are Canadian, I suppose you can just send them scan of your passport showing that you are not U.S. Citizen? Did you speak with paypal representative yet?

Anything provided addresswise should match the address on PP account

This doesn't make any sense.

In my opinion, it's either some kind of glitch or this isn't a true Canadian account you're working with.

I don't get it either... is op using a Canadian ebay and Canadian paypal account?
