paypal just decided in my favour - but i have no idea why?

Sold a gift card on ebay, buyer sent a message sounding like a nigerian. And shortly after the account holder started ebay/paypal disputes stating unauthorised. Because they had opened cases on both i couldn't cancel the order and refund because ebay told me to go to paypal and visa-versa.

Paypal just decided in my favour. So I have been paid AND still got the gift cards. Not sure how to proceed, noticed the buyer has feedback saying the buyer scammed them out of gift cards a week early getting a refund once codes received. so i'm wondering if it was actually the account owner trying to scam rather than a hacked account?

See how it goes but at present I'm £50 up. Small victory lol I'm in shock as paypal don't like taking the sellers side even when they have lost out.

One time I sold a pair of $135 shoes kith coca cola converse. The account got killed for unrelated reasons and I didn't worry about it. Guy ended up filing a PayPal dispute since it was way past the 90 eBay dispute policy. So he ended up sending the shoes back to me BC he said they were ⊗⊗⊗⊗. Paypal sided with me gave me the money back into my account and I still got the shoes back. Lol
I sold them again on another account. F'n crazy

PayPal can be weird like this sometimes, or downright screw up things.

I once had a buyer open a dispute on PayPal claiming the item was broken. The case was escalated to a "claim" and I even agreed to refund. Unbelievably, PayPal decided to reverse the claim and close the case in MY favor. They did this automatically- I never called them or anything. They just closed it. The customer was furious, and despite trying to re-open the case, they were unable to because PayPal said it was already closed and couldn't be re-opened.

This type of stuff does happen, and their crazy system is often who decides who is right.

-one cannot open a case on Ebay and Paypal for the same item,if he files chargeback with his cc issuer, the Paypal case is closed once Paypal receives notice a chargeback has been filed.
-Paypal has ways to tell if UA is truly unauthorised transaction .

did the buyer return the item in timely manner and upload a tracking showing it has been delivered?
if he does nothing, then the case will close in your favor.
Sometimes his reputation of too many disputes will make him ineligible for buyer protection.

That all occurred on the SAME day.
The case was opened by the buyer, and escalted to a claim. After a few minutes, PayPal CLOSED case in my favor.

I didn't do anything. The customer didn't return the item, either.
