PayPal Funds Now Under Review Being Told To Add Debit Card They Can Confirm
 

Hello,

I recently spoke with PayPal who told me by account's "funds now" are temporarily unavailable until I add a new debit card to my account so they can confirm my identity. They are saying this is a new FDIC regulation. Is this true? They already have my SSN. I have been told two different things by two different representatives.

I have a fund now account,I dont have any debit card linked to my account.
The only debit card I have is the Paypal debit card which taps my Paypal fund backed by my bank fund.
Paypal reps often just say anything ,I dont see why FDIC would want your debit card,it does not even know you exist,Paypal is the bank account holder,we are just subaccounts,Paypal knows who we are,but the bank does not,all it knows is Paypal.
And Paypal has many bank accounts across US and other countries

Yeah, I had a large surge in sales which resulted in my PayPal account being limited. Because I have been in good standing, PayPal removed the limitation (without me needing to provide anything) after I chatted with them. After the limitation was lifted, there was an alert on the account saying the "funds now" may not be available until they finish view of recent account activity.

Well, the rep who removed the limitation said I was still in the program and to ignore the message. Later, once I saw the message still on my account, I chatted another rep who said it was because of "blah blah FDIC changes" and I needed to verify a debit card not the prepaid greendot I had on the account and everything would go back to normal.

Honestly, I just want to know a straight answer so I can manage cash flow...

PayPal was saying it was a new policy to be in compliance with FDIC regulations, not that was FDIC wants it, but I understand what you are saying. Would still be interested to see your opinion on what is going on with my account.

it could be something about your account they dont feel comfortable with and with your debit card,they can debit your bank account quickly,faster than ACH,JUST A SPECULATION.
Have your recent activities warrant such?

No, I took a break from selling on eBay for two months, and then did about $800.00 dollars in 3 days. This is what caused the limitation. I have a bank account attached to the PayPal account as well. There is nothing sketchy going on with this account.

When I signed up long ago,I recall Paypal could pull a credit report on us,if you have a merchant account and had one at one time,Paypal could also access your account .
if you have a debit card,just let them have it

Your credit report theory is interesting because I did have a recent charge off on my credit score but I also have had bad credit for years and PayPal still loans to me through working capital because of my good business with them. Honestly, my best guess was the change in selling activity after a break but honestly who knows? $800.00 in 3 days is nothing, I used to do thousands a day continually.

may be they just want a debit card not just from you but from others as well.

Dunno, just uploaded a couple tracking numbers and the alert is now gone. Who knows!?!

Most likely a bunch of bs from the customer service rep, agent.. Probably sales velocity type review and once tracking as added, they let it go. The lesson to take away here, never listen to ebay or paypal customer service reps.
