Can PayPal see the note left for seller
 

Hi there,

I bought an item from ebay using my stealth account and in the note for the seller section I gave seller the name and the address of other paypal account I have.

I did not expect paypal to see this info, as it was given on ebay, but when paypal sent me a Receipt for Your Payment with the note from ebay included.

It was such a stupid and impulsive mistake, I know, how high are the chances those two accounts will go down?

Very, very low. Something like that most likely wouldn't be caught unless your account was being manually reviewed and somebody was looking into that specific transaction.


I would avoid doing that in the future regardless of whether or not Paypal notices this time.

Of course I will never do it again, it was very dumb mistake.

But thanks for reassuring, I was hoping that I won't get caught as well!

but your seller could refuse to ship to your address in the note section as she gets no seller protection.
I know I would refuse,I would refund your payment and ask you to add that address to your first paypal account as a shipping address and send the payment again

I'm not going to lie... it's been so long since I've even LOOKED for seller notes, that I'm looking right now and don't even know where to find where one would be if it was there lol

If a note is left, it shows on the "awaiting shipment" page under the buyers order, and it also shows as part of their order details when you click the "print shipping label" link.

Ehhh, I've never printed from ebay. So that's why I never see the second part.

I also don't look at any of that mess. Just go straight to PP or whichever shipping platform, and print/ship. :)

An Ebay seller lost a $24k watch by reading the note -
The buyer purchased a watch,he has no shipping address with Paypal,as he was using his account to purchase digital goods.
But in the note section,he gave a shipping address.
Seller is aware of Paypal seller protection,so she called PAYPAL and the rep said this is fine,go ahead and ship,you are protected.
She shipped and then get a INR dispute and lost the dispute.
She wished she has recorded the conversation,but we all know it is a waste of time,Paypal robot took her tracking number and ship to address and compare it with buyer blank blank blank shipping address in his Paypal account and return with a code which said no match.
She kept appealing and she lost.
Buyer gets a very nice gold watch free ($24,000)

you can open a Paypal account with no shipping address if all you do is purchase digital goods,Paypal allows that.

I swear these scammer/buyers are sellers as well,they know the trade well,as sellers they can send an empty envelope with tracking and signature request to a store in your zipcode .it could be a mail station,a Chinese laundry or a restaurant and whoever receive incoming mail for that business will just sign for it and throw the letter away .
You dont hear all these scams anymore,may be USPS GPS shows it was not delivered to the buyer address.
As buyers,they prey on newbie sellers or sellers who are anxious to make sales,a $24k gold watch will be resold to overseas buyers,there is a place in Dubai which sells nice preowned time pieces .
Gold will be melt down and precious stone jewelry will be sent overseas.

we are talking about shipping address ,not residence address,you can have multiple shipping addresses,like if you want it ship to someone else,some buyers will do so like gifting or dropshipping,you also do not have to enter a shipping address if you do not use your account to buy anything or anything which needs to be shipped

The only time I've seen the option to leave out your shipping address is when you're using the "send money" option in Paypal. You can leave it out then. But you're saying somebody pulled this scam on eBay, which would have been impossible. There's no way to order on eBay without an address, digital item or not.

Just pointing out that you're probably off on the details of this scam if it's really something that happened. :ranger:

What would be feasible is this : the buyer orders on eBay with their default confirmed shipping address, but leaves a different (unconfirmed) address as a note to the seller. If the seller ships to the address left as a note, seller protection is voided and the buyer is eligible for a full refund.

yes,it has happened ,it was posted on Paypal forum.
There is another case,an Ebay seller selling digital goods from NM has just been audited by the state for collecting sales tax,since there is no shipping,her Paypal history shows no buyer ship to address,and the way it works is that the proof is on her that all her sales should have shipping address,if none,then all h er sales are to NM residents.
Since she failed t o collect sales tax from them,she has to pay out of her own pocket.
these buyers do have shipping address ,but it is not show in her payment history and Paypal is not going to make an extra effort to revive her payment history for 4 years to give her their shipping address,it would require a software change.
But I think in the future they will have to as more digital sellers would be audited.

if you go into Paypal report section and call out your past sales,there are several format options,two formats will give you more options like what you want to include or exclude,shipping address of the buyer,item description,name of the buyer,how much ,country codes ,sales tax collected are all there.
You would need this file to show the auditor for in state sales, you have collected sales tax and it agrees with what you actually remitted to the state each year and for out of state sales,the address of these buyers are out of state.
You would need Excel or Google doc.

There are Paypal users out there who do not buy or sell,they use their accounts to send money domestic or overseas ,pay their landlords,split the dining bills,some even use it for payroll processing.
Paypal brags if you run a business,you can save money by using Paypal to pay your workers,but the workers are not happy as Paypal takes a cut,since when do you pay transaction and 2.9-4.4% of your Paycheck.
You do need to give Paypal your residence address,but not shipping address ,not everyone uses his Paypal account to buy something,or buy something which needs to be shipped,it is optional

They can definitely see it. But unless they ran a scan for links or it is manually reviewed you will be fine.
