US Government and Paypal

In 2015,Paypal agreed to pay $7.7 millions to settle allegations that it violated US sanctions by processing payments for black listed indviduals and organisations.
In 2017,it received subpoenas from US Justice Dept over its anti-money laundering compliance program.
In summer of 2019,Paypal is one of the companies which received letter from US Treasury Dept asking for a complete overview of its money lanudering compliance programs and how Libra would fit into it.
Paypal has withdrawn from participating in Liba.

The big fish are far smarter than the US Government and don't use PayPal. There are a multitude of ways to easily move money/value across borders without pesky AML getting in the way.

An Ebay seller who sells and never ship anything, someone snitched and reported him,it turns out this is how he receive money from ISIS to fund ISIS USA activities.

Precious metals? Yes.

The problem with gold & silver is it's a physical commodity that has to be transported from one place to another. Too cumbersome and can be hard to get through customs. Security is always an issue, too.

There are digital methods other than just crypto for moving value without much detection. Just as easy to move $10M as it would $1.

PayPal is a pain in the butt and not suitable for large amounts anyway.

In war torn countries, there may not be any WIFI or even electricity .
thats why people have gold teeth, gold bar, gold nuggets..
When the Vietnamese refugees (boat people) were robbed by pirates, they found many gold chains.
During gulf War ,Kuwati fled to neighbor countries, their credit card, debit card and Kuwati currencies are not accepted but gold yes.
Some day when we flee to Mexico and want to buy an iguana from the lady on the road, guess what she prefers,-Mexican peso,US dollars,Gold or Micky Mouse lithograph?

There was a time, stamps are good,in SE Asia, you can send stamps in lieu of cash, like if you are in Singapore, you can send Singapore stamps to someone in Malaya, there was no Malaysia then.
They must have a way to sell these stamps for local cash?
Oh,I was watching Johnny Carson the other day,I recall when he and his third wife divorced, they fought over 80 Kruegerand coins,he cant claim her jewelry, when she shopped for jewelry, she would pick out the ones she like and asked the jeweler to call Johnnie to come and pay,so there is proof these are gifts and not common property

I hope the US government will ban cryptos all together and get us done with that bull****.

If we are to lose cash money as we know it today, it will be because of the stupid nerds who came up with the idea of digital money. That will be a terrifying nightmare for us all!!

In walks Gemini, the regulated cryptocurrency. Seen it advertised on the trains.

Re: US Government and Paypal

You can't really "ban" crypto, and that doesn't stop people from using it.

Crypto use is still alive and well in China, despite the government cracking down on exchanges. There is still a thriving grey market that exists there.

Re: US Government and Paypal

people can do whatever they want,as long as they think it holds value.
In the past ,instead of hoarding their own currencies, they hold US dollars, gold, overseas real estate.
