My paypal account was hacked
 

Hi. My paypal account was hacked and a friend told me I should get to this forum and ask for opinions on how I should handle the situation.

So... on Dec 6 I received an email telling me that someone tried to login in my Gmail account (the email address I am using on my paypal account). I did not paid attention because I was out for a couple of days and I did not seen that email on that day.

Yesterday I checked my email and I had like 200 spam emails about some random russian websites. I tried to login to my paypal account to make a payment but it asked me for the 2 steps verification (which I did not activated) so I couldn`t login.

After some more investigations ... I have seen on my email that, beside activating the 2 steps verification they also changed the email address, removed one of my credit cards and added a new one.

I have tried to contact PayPal but I can`t use the support forum because I can`t login, I also tried to call on a phone number but nobody answer (I tried to call them several times and left the call open for 2 hours ...). I have also contacted PayPal on twitter and facebook but they keep telling me to keep calling on that phone number where nobody picks up the phone..

I had in my account about $3k and paypal doesn`t seem to care too much.
Any recommendation on what to do next in order to get my account back?

Hi,
I m so sorry to hear about that.
It seems indeed that your account has been hacked and the hackers sent you a lot email so you don't notice directly about the hack.
Meaning right now you can't even login to your paypal account? You had paypal funds in your account?
Best way ofc is to get in touch with the support and fill c claim for an unauthorized access to your account.
And call your bank to block your cards.

so they have changed primary email address?
if that happened, they would have access to your email account, your passwords would have been changed and you would not be able to login at all.

the 2FA requires a mobile number, i'm sure a hacker is unlikely to go that far
If you where hacked, money would have gone by now

The login problem is probably a security promp
