New stealth limited immediately after receiving payment. What does this e-mail mean?
 

A new stealth account received its first payment and immediately after my account was limited requesting ONLY a photo ID upload. Normally they ask for more but it's just asking for photo ID.

Upon looking at the e-mail, even the e-mail is different than the normal "we noticed a change in activity" e-mail. This is what it says:

We need some information from you.
Why do we need this information?
We seem to be missing some information to verify your identity.
We've also temporarily limited certain features in your PayPal account.

Currently, you won’t be able to:
Send money
Withdraw money
What should you do?
Log in to your PayPal account and provide the information we've requested.

US account. Any idea what causes this?

EDIT: Also, payment was NON eBay transaction.

Email title is 'We need some information regarding your PayPal account.'

Yes it was. From someone with an established account, in no way linked or anything.

It sounds like your photo is the only document they need from you.

was it a brand new account (same day as sending funds)?

was it a large sum of money for a 1st transaction?

money potential problems-- need more details to see the cause

It was a new account yes, but I've done this many times before with stealth accounts without issue. And *never* had it immediately limit after receiving.

It was for about $200 which also I have done before many times with a fresh stealth without issue before now.

Anyone have any advice here? Don't want to risk getting another stealth account instantly triggered.

Definitely don't go over $100, $50 is the preferred range. Paypal getting more critical over time.

Weird, I've had no problems before doing $200-$250. Guess changes are happening, though.

This doesn't mean you did something wrong. PayPal algorithm to determine whether or not to place restriction is based on a lot of factors. Factors that you would never imagine they use it. So sometimes you may receive $500 even $1000 without issues, and sometimes even $15 would cause instant limitation. So in PayPal there is NO general rule that can be applied and there are no guarantees that the account will not be limited even if you tested your method on a lot of accounts.

Paypal has gotten tite...I lost a account this week asking me samething..Once you get that, that paypal is dead if you using a stealth account...I had 2 orders ready to ship and.I refunded them...Best to go slow with items $50 and under for awhile......

I lost one of the stealth accounts because I received payments $100 and $225 as my first and second payment. Then they asked me photo ID and phone verification again.

I think it is good to receive small amounts first and leave the money in PayPal few days. Anyway it is good to follow the instructions in stealth book
