PP less strict with non-eBay use?
 

So obviously using a stealth PP on eBay means having two sets of eyes on you, but when a stealth acct is used for a non-eBay transaction (such as selling from your own website), is PP a bit more lenient in general?

Also, I purchased the stealth book and I understand the importance of changing your IP address...but why is it necessary to change your IP address everytime? If I have a suspended account under IP 1.1.1.101, and I start using IP 2.2.2.202, isn't that enough? I only plan on having one PP account (I don't sell on eBay, and rarely buy), so should I be setting a new IP each time I need to log into PP?

Lastly, I know that eBay sends flash cookies with emails...does PayPal do the same?

I can't say yes or no. They probably don't have written in their clauses "We will be less stringent on non-ebay accounts"

What I do know, is that if you stick within their TOS guidelines, even when selling from your own site you won't have an issue. Once you start selling porn, or any other thing that they don't allow then be prepared for a limitation.

I have a site that sells ebooks, I sell about 3-4 a day since mid june and I've not had an issue at all. I don't even use the "ship now" button in paypal because it's instant delivery, at first I thought that would be a problem.. but it has worked itself out... knock on wood.

As hitch said, play by their rules even off ebay & things should be OK. But paypal still takes action. Don't forget that sometimes the buyer may come under paypal review and that can affect you.

I think you may have mis-understood the Ebay Stealth, you dont need to "change ip everytime" as long as your NEW ip is different to the suspended IP you can stick to it.

this is epecially true if you are using VPN where the ip is static. Obviously if you are using a Dynamic ip service (like dialup) then you have a new IP each time you connect to the internet...which is fine if you are only planning to have 1 ebay/paypal account.

But if you plan to have Multiple ebay/paypal accounts then you MUST record each ip and make sure you dont login 2 ebays/paypal with the same ip. this is to make sure your accounts are not linked together. (as well as keeping a different windows user account for each ebay/paypal account)

About Paypal being less strict....there is no SURE answer...but i have found that my chinese supplier is able to get away with amounts as big as 5-6 grand in his paypal (OFF-ebay).....where as i am sticking to a very very strict low amount of money ($500 per month per account - ON ebay)...especially because they are stealth accounts....

I am sure most people here would go for larger amounts but i guess i am paranoid and it just seems to work for me.....

About paypal cookies email...i would excercise the same amount of caution as Ebay emails....after all they ARE the same people in more then one way.

Paypal does seem a lot less strict with non ebay linked accounts and transactions. I've been successfully using a new stealth account for a couple of months now to receive a lot of large payments without any trouble.

True. PP is just a money service, a bridge. Just like USPS. They don't take any responsibility if the sales are not generated by them or by their big brother eBay.

Yes definately, i had a few chargeback on the Ebid site and they clearly stated that there was nothing they about giving the buyer a refund and were closing the case. they also quoted as it's a transaction outside of ebay they could not investigate further

This is the potential danger with off-ebay transactions & paypal. They still limit you and you can be without redress.:pout:

I find PP is more towards the seller off ebay on my sites and they have this clever question they ask the buyer when a dispute is registered. Press the wrong answer and PP answers with a " you now have elected to terminate the dispute upon this your action..." works like a charm. You know all chargebacks are filed on your credit report. Card companies will not return money anymore with these scammers.

It's safer when it's not associated with eBay, but you should still treat the account as if it was linked to eBay. This mentality has kept me out of trouble for years. Just remember not to be too sudden. Avoid changing lots of personal information after receiving any sort of large payment. Don't immediately start sending money to other people after receiving a large sum.
