cant withdraw 20,000 GBP after 180 on hold - Help Please
 

My name is Joao, I am Portuguese.

My paypal account was blocked and my funds were on hold for 180 days. The value of the funds is £ 20,000. My account was blocked because I made some very large sales to a buyer, and paypal considered that I was a risk to them. In July, 180 days passed without incident and I was informed that I could now withdraw my money to my bank account.

I no longer live in the UK, I returned to Portugal, and my bank account was closed. Paypal offers some more options for me to withdraw my money, but for that I will have to contact them, and that is the problem, it is impossible to contact them by phone, and all my messages receive an automatic response with matters nothing to do with my question.

This month my credit card associated with the account has expired, I was informed by paypal that if I don't add another card I will be without access to my account.

What can I do to recover my money?

You're bound to get your money back as long as you did not violate AUP and more so your account isn't stealth.

In my personal experience, they'll take you round in circles unless you can run circles around them first.

if you are in Portugal,you should be able to open a POrtuguese PAYPAL account linked to a local bank account.
Can you try sending that money from y our UK account to your Portuguese account,currency conversion fee applies

she has a UK paypal account linked to a UK bank acccount which is now closed,I dont think she can link a Portuguese bank account to a UK Paypal account.
Worse,her credit card will expire soon,if not already.

can you reopen that UK bank account,not familiar with UK banking?

for that kind of money,she could travel back to UK and open a new bank account in UK and add it to her UK pAYPAL account.

Don't do this ^^ OP.
Paypal will just suspend the new account and if you've managed to get any funds in it, you have to wait 180 days over again.

Go the twitter route or wait for further advice from other members.

If you have other uses for a PayPal account, consider a stealth account. The details you need are in the stealth guide.

A specialist will definitely get it sorted.

You need to have a means of accepthing the money though. Can you not add a portugese bank account to this paypal over the phone ?

Yes, it appears so but I think its just a pretext to get a brief respite from providing customer service. They must really hate talking to us over the phone. :d

There are people who can provide a service for this. While this is a large sum, you need to find someone you can trust that will add a bank and withdraw it for you, then repay you back. That's a lot of dough though, i'd be flipping out with that much in paypal. Hell would freeze over before i left more than 4k in there in any name not my own. Which i do time to time, but again it's my own. I'd go balls to wall after them if they tried to keep my money. Amazon tried to do that with nearly 30k once, i got jeff bezos executive team involved, and the funds were released.

I had a similiar story.
I was just keeping contact with them a day after day for about a month after, and eventually the money has released. They would let me transfer to another bank of mine

you cannot add pORTUGUESE bank account to a UK Paypal account,

open monese or revolut or transferwise all 3 of these come with local uk bank details and work with paypal

i'm still waiting, no more reply yet i sent a few more messages on tweeter but they never read them. I also sent a letter by mail and no response yet.

i am thinking of taking the plane and going to the UK, to paypal headquarters in Richmond. Does anyone know if I will be received by someone from paypal if I travel there?

Yes, I already have a new bank account, I spoke with my old bank, and opened a new account, I spoke to my old landlord, and he accepted that I give his address, and he sent the card to Portugal. I already have a new Visa card, but now I have another problem, to update the bank account I have to confirm with my phone number, number that I no longer have, I added a new number, but it is still necessary to confirm with the old number or contact Paypal, which is also impossible.
