Withdraw USD in a european country

My paypal account only let me withdraw in EUROS.

I read that some countries allow card withdrawal and you can actually change default currency to USD on the card and withdraw USD to avoid the horrible exchange rate.

Has anyone tried this?

Should I buy a luxembourg account to do it?

Any feedback is appreciated.

I dont really understand what your asking.

Inside paypal you can switch your funds to any currency.
Just add the currency from settings, and switch you funds.

Also with transfering to a bank acount, you should get the option to just withdraw yuo dollars to your euro bank account.
Or is it a Us paypal?

Good luck

he means that he receives money in USD in his european paypal account so if he wants to withdraw to bank, they will give him Euro and charge a fee for exchanging USD to Euro.

I don't think that it's possible to withdraw USD to avoid this fee.

but hopefully someone else knows if there is a way to do it.

Welcome to the forum - all the best as you master stealth :thumb:

You can add a "wallet" to your PP to accept USD.

Now, for withdrawal, you need a US bank account. I like the international services offered by HSBC but there can be high balance requirements to open this kind of account.

Do you have any access to US banks at all?

agent006140 09-25-2020 06:39 AM

He wants to withdraw to a card which would accept US $,it is not that simple, how does Paypal send your fund depends on where you are .
you can ask for euro instead of US dollar,so the sender would pay the conversion fee,if you are in position to do so.

This is what happens, but he wants to transfer the US $ out of paypal to a bank or card without converting his US $ into Euro.
he asked if there is a card he can transfer his US$ FROM PAYPAL to that card.
(HIS problem is that he opens an account in a country where euro is the currency)

The only way to avoid fee is to link a US bank account,as a courtesy to US expatriates,US paypal members overseas can link their US bank account and transfer fund to these bank accounts.
OP is not in UK,he opens a UK account and accepts US dollars, now he does not want to pay Paypal conversion fee from US $ to Euro .
If he has another Paypal account which is US based or know someone who does,he can send his US $ to that account !

like my professor likes to say, read the question.
He does not want to pay fees to transfer his US dollars into a bank or card,he wants to know if any of us know of such a card which will accept US dollars.
He does not want to keep it into his Paypal account
He does not want to pay Paypal any fee

I bet you he wants breakfast served in bed FREE !!

very good,my professor will give you an A-.
BUT HE has a pORTUGAL Paypal account ,note his flag.
The only way to have it his way is to sell on a site say Ebay Europe where transaction is in Euro, then it is the US buyer responsibility to pay the conversion fee from US to Euro if they want to buy an item from him.
then he can transfer his Euro to his bank or card without paying any Paypal fee.
Or if he has his own website,he can ask for Euro, then the buyer has to convert his local currency to Euro on his dime.

MAY BE HE can send the US dollar to you and then you can order breakfast in bed

US dollars is weak these days as our central bank is printing unlimited amount of money,so the longer he waits, the weaker it could get as we are close to presidential election and speculations is one of the candidate may contest.
so either bite the bullet and pay the awful Paypal fee or spend it on something worthwhile,Apple products are good to resell, consider that.

yes,you got it right.
But what is he going to do with US dollars,he is in Portugal,I believe they use Euro.
Unless he can get it converted to Euro at a better rate than Paypal .

He can just switch the usd to euro inside paypal.
Then withdraw that currency.

Sometimes i withdraw, canadian dollar, ausie dollar and euro.
Just cba to convert and paypal converts it for me when pressing withdrawal.
Still not seeing any issue here, you control evry currency you want from inside paypal, just add the setting that you can add other currencies and then convert the dollars or euros to whatever currency.

He is getting paid by USD right and does not want to convert inside Paypal to EURO. So he needs to withdraw USD, right? Well, the only way would be to withdraw to an USD account, either a USD bank account or USD credit card.

If Portugal Paypal allows to add withdrawals via "transfer to card" then he could add a USD card, or he could an USD bank account (ie USA bank account, I think its possible for some EU Countries, but not many).

So? Either I missed something or that is exactly what he needs.

Re: Withdraw USD in a european country

I have a portugal paypal account. I have USD in it. I want to convert to EUR but I also want to avoid paypal exchange rate. Paypal ONLY let me withdraw EUR via SEPA transfer in portugal.

I wonder if I had a secondary european paypal account (luxembourg, for example) that has withdrawls via credit/debit cards. That way I could change the currency for the card to USD and hopefully receive USD in my card WITHOUT paypal making the conversion.
And my question was if anyone has tried that.

Thank you :)

Re: Withdraw USD in a european country

Hey countries that allow card withdraw can do this

You can add the card to the paypal account call up paypal to manually change the card's currency to USD,the withdraws will then come in US dollars

ive done this with revolut visa cards and the payments successfully reached my Revolut account in USD on an Europian PayPal account that is only supposed to be able to withdraw in euros.

PP follows the laws of the country where it is registered. If only EUR inside then EUR only.

Nice. That was what I was looking for. In which country did you open the paypal account?

Also, does paypal include a fee on card withdrawals?

Re: Withdraw USD in a european country

why you dont add a US bank account to your account for withdrawals on USD ? I'm transferring the USD funds to transferwise US account .

Re: Withdraw USD in a european country

every single paypal which can receive money from every country is eligble to link an US account and withdraw in USD.
but you have to call them to link it for you. Transferwise has USD accs and very easy to open

Been ages since I worked with transferwise so my memory is bit blurry about the stealth name deposit - works fine?

no mismatched names will get transferwise banned faster than it took for you to type this sentence

I used a Romanian and Serbian paypal, both worked.

I believe they charge 0,25$ per card withdraw

Yeah, I don't think that's true at all. Did you sucessfully add a US bank account from transferwise to an european account?

Because I already tried that and they told me it's not possible and I can't withdraw USD or link a US bank account...
