Paypal Has Limited My Account Until I Provide Tax Info
 

Paypal is asking me for my tax information, but I'm no where near the $20,000 mark to be taxed by the IRS. It's only giving me the option of providing a SS# or ITIN. Obviously, I can't give them my true SS#, and I believe an ITIN has to be your true ITIN. I do have an old EIN # from years ago. Can I use that, or will they flag it if it's been used before? The IRS wants a deposit of like $150 to get an EIN # now. I can't accept any payments at this time, so I'm screwed unless I can fix this. Any help is appreciated.

They can request that info based on your current sales - so a spike in sales could account for that.
If that Ein was previously used with another paypal account you should not be using it.
If the account is important enough then get the new EIN. Its the cost of doing business.

In my experience the Paypal tax information request is triggered by the number of transactions you have. All of my accounts were triggered at 150 transactions give or take.

got the same thing a few months ago. got a free ein at square. used that to switch to business account. still running with no giving of my previously banned ssn.
