how i can prevent a scam on a 3.000usd sale?

hello. im selling very expensive item. its not a scam attractive because its very specific sounds equipment and this item is not in high demand so i was waiting for a buyer few months

so i had a sketchy buyer that made a payment right away for a full amount and the money is right there in my paypal account. he was not asking to send it with no signature or to diff address

the only one shady moment is the buyer is male and the payment was made with a female name. i asked who is the sender? and the buyer told me smth like he cant change the senders name on his account and his using his moms card

i refunded him the same day so i dont lose paypal fees

my question is how can i prevent a scam on that sale?

my main concern is INR case or unauthorized case on paypal. i read pp policies very carefully and i can see that pp will cover seller in both cases if i have a proof of delivery and a tracking number

how would u go about this sale? please advice

Ship with tracking and signature confirmation to whatever address shows as "confirmed" in Paypal. There isn't much else you can do since that's inline with Paypal guidelines.

i can defend a INR case if i would provide a signature confirmation and the tracking number with delivered status on the buyers address

but as for unauthorized transaction i can see paypal many times rules in favor of the buyer even if i would have a signature confirmation and the tracking number with delivered status on the buyers address

if i will have buyer to pay 3 times in a row for example? he pays and i refund and i do it one more time. he pays 3rd time and now i actually ship the item. will it prevent unauthorized transaction case? i mean the buyer wont be able to tell payapl that it was unauthorized transaction because he paid 3 times in a row

if it was a 30 dollar item i would not much thought of it. but i dont want to lose my item and lose the case and have to pay payapl fees and 20$ chargeback fee on top of that

Did you consider selling locally, mate?

Cash on collection, for example.

Sound equipment as in musical instrument or something for music?

For $3k value, I know you can get it sold locally. A music community will have the right buyer usually.

Welcome to the forum - all the best as you master stealth :thumb:

This statement seems like a hassle for a buyer to do - kind of annoying to pay for something 3 times

first you dont have to ship to a confirmed address, but the address Paypal sent you in the You got money email, read the fine lines which said if you are full or partially qualified for seller protection.
second, there is no seller protection for INAD,item not as described and you will pay return shipping .
As for UA,you do get seller protection if you prove you have shipped,so you would need to keep the shipping label and tracking to prove you have shipped the item.
if buyer files UA,Paypal robot may side with them, but you can appeal and get a person involved and point out to him Paypal UA protection for seller.
But if it is MP,not Paypal, then you need to review MP policy

go to Paypal now and review its seller protection policy,

Paypal has ways to determine if it is UA,from ISP address etc.
say if he has been online and active on Ebay ,he bought 5 items but filed UA on one, then his UA case would be denied.

Sounds like a legit buyer to me. People pay from family members accounts all the time.

Just send it tracked to the address PayPal provide and you are covered for INR

iNAD no one can win these. But you can still get eBay or Paypal to refund you out of their pockets if you can provide a police report should the buyer scam you.

It's easy to sell high value items online people just don't understand the rules and policies.

Yes, people pay with family members cards all the time especially young people buying video games or computer equipment. If it was a $300 item, I would go for it but $3000 is quite some money.

For that kind of money,I would look at the buyer's feedback closely, watch his behavior, kind of stuff he usually buys... There will still be some risk with credit cards involved. I think, in the end, it all depends on whether you think the risk is worth it or not.

Youre right to be concerned. I would be too given the value of the item and the ease with which one can scam using paypal.
If I were you I wouldnt bother selling it on ebay. Better to sell it for 15% cheaper (which is the percentage that would go to ebay anyway) and do it locally. Even an additional 10% off that would be justified ot be certain you get cash in your hands for such an item.
