I.D requests for all brand new PayPal accounts.
 

Hi guys, used to be on here years ago, at least 10 or 12 but can't remember any details so starting afresh.

I'm very experienced in creating PayPals, probably many many hundreds over the years.

However since 1st February things have quiet dramatically changed on UK PayPal so looking for other people in the UK who have tried to set up stealth PayPal accounts to share their experiences and thoughts. This is for personal accounts btw

Firstly they've added a box asking about tax liabilities. This is no biggy, just a drop down box. The issue is after you've been asked to confirm your email, it will ask you for verification I. D., it says to prove your name and D. O. B.. Now I've tried multiple different workarounds and it comes up every time, and a bit of googling suggests it is indeed a new policy being implemented.

So my question please guys is has anyone from the UK created a PayPal without being asked for I. D in the last 7 days, or for anyone who has tried to share their experience. I managed to find a work around for new accounts to accept f+f payments successfully when there was a crackdown last spring on that in the UK, so sure we can find a work around here to. Anyway thanks for reading.

Yes, I've noticed the same. They were requesting it randomly toward the end of January but now it's on every account created.

It's been this way for business accounts for well over a year now. It was only a matter of time before they added personal accounts into the mix.

There isn't a workaround unless you are prepared to use real information.

The best way is to just suck it up and supply the ID and address proof being requested.

It seemed logical this would happen, everyone seems to be asking for ID from the outset these days. Not necessarily a bad thing, gives you a chance to hone your creative skills and make strong accounts :)

Paypal stock losing value quarter after quarter, the business model and management is flawed so...turning more into a money grabbing machine than a bank hah

I would not call asking for ID a way to grab more money?
These days when you deposit a large sum into your bank account,it could take weeks to clear.
Paypal is no longer the only game in town,there are others such as Apple Pay,Google Pay.
Losing Ebay business also does not help its bottom line.
Paypal has some nifty features though,you can keep your fund in local or foreign currency,say an Eastern European seller sell on US or EU website,he can hold his sales proceeds in EU or US $ .

I did post a reply to this last night but its gone for some reason. Yes, I've found workarounds now. I will reply briefly for now as I've a busy weekend and don't want to reply to see my answer disappear again. It's important to understand what PayPal are doing now first, to then be able to work around it. From various accounts I've set up in the past week, it's clear to me with high certainty that PayPal are now doing a 'soft' electronic check at point of sign up, which checks name, address and d.o.b against existing records.

When you sign up now to PayPal one of three things will happen. PayPal can immediately comfirm your identity and will set up an account instantly with no I.D required. If it can't immediately confirm it will then ask you to upload I. D and will either accept or reject it. This process now seems to happen very quickly though.

What I do find most surprising is I believed organisations had to ask your permission, or notify you before they carried out these 'soft' checks, at point of sign up. Every institution I've had experience from does clearly yet for PP I've not noticed anything. Not directly relevant to the problem but still a little curious.

So that is what seems to be happening. My sample size is still low, I've only set up 20 new accounts this last week. I will, time permitting, try and set up another 40 or 50 accounts over the next month to try and increase the sample size and certainty. The patterns are starting to show clearly though so once you see what PayPal are doing, you can make choices about how to make accounts going forward.

Ebay UK also do these soft checks before deciding whether or not to ask you for ID early on.

Well my content was the exact same as what I've posted here the second time, there is nothing in there that wouldn't be be allowed. I also would of thought that I would of maybe got a message from a mod advising me if there was something they would rather I didn't broadcast which I didn't. I'd like to think I have enough experience to know how to keep my posts on the right side of the line though 🙂

It could be that I accidentally deleted it somehow after I edited it, as I know it was published originally. Since most my activity happens at silly o'clock in the middle of the night when I'm struggling to sleep I guess this is entirely plausible 🙂

Hey. can i dm you to ask some questions about UK paypals? I also used to make paypal accounts back in 2016-17 and Now when i'm back, things have changed. Would really appreciate if can get some questions/doubts answered.
