Help me get my $475 + avoid a limitation...

I just had someone send me a payment of $475 to an email address that I do not have connected to any paypal account. I was going to instruct them to send it somewhere else, but they beat me to it, and just sent it to the email that I use to address questions. Now paypal is asking me to register or something to claim it.

What exactly do I need to do, to claim that money without having the newly registered account limited? I'd rather not attach a bank account or credit card unless absolutely necessary. I don't intend to keep using that email address to receive payments. I just want to gain access to this 1 payment. I realize that I won't be able to withdraw the $ related to the payment if there is no bank account attached, and I'm fine with that. Once I have access to the $, I can spend it on ebay, or do anything else with it. I just want to know what the bare minimum is to gain access to it safely.

Could I just make a new paypal with that email, that is totally unverified, and unconfirmed, and safely spend that $?

Any insight is appreciated. Feel free to PM if you think your ideas would be better kept off the boards. Thanks!

Tell the buyer that it was not the correct email address for PayPal. Give them the new address and ask them to contact PayPal about reversing the first payment.

I had this happen before with a clueless buyer who sent payment to my username@ebay.com. PayPal reversed the charge for him and helped him send it correctly.

I understand it can be reversed. I'm trying to find out what you need to do, to be able to receive the payment in that situation without a limitation (assuming you DONT reverse/deny it).

Basically I want to know if the account has to be fully verified and confirmed, or just verified, or just concerned, or if neither will be sufficient at that high a $ amount.

Anyone who has successfully received/accepted a similar payment under such circumstances, I'd like to hear their experience. Thanks.

Option 1: Have them cancel the payment by logging in their PayPal account and have them send the payment elsewhere.(invoice them through an existing paypal account or ccnow)

Option 2: Add the email address to an existing paypal account( 2+ months old)

Option 3: There is no option 3!

Ok. Thanks. I basically figured as much, but I'd never been in this situation before, so I wanted to know all the options. All 2 of them I guess lol.
