How Closely Does PayPal Scrutinize Non-eBay Transactions

Hey Everyone,

So I was just wondering how much experience any of you have using PayPal to accept payment for items not sold through eBay?

I'm thinking of starting some business with another auction site, and this particular site does not integrate with PayPal; however, I've heard of lots of people selling on this site, invoicing their buyers through PayPal, and then simply marking the item as paid on the auction site once they receive the payment. Apparently neither the site nor the buyers really have problems with this.

How would PayPal view these transactions? Would they be more likely to limit my account since I'd have more transactions coming through than if I was just selling on eBay?

OR

Would they be less likely to limit my account since I have LESS eBay transactions coming through?

The items I'm interested in selling would be considered VERO on eBay if that makes a difference.

Any thoughts on how I should label the invoices to avoid additional scrutiny?

Is the general consensus that I should use a separate PayPal account than the ones that are tied to my various eBay accounts for this new auction site?

The will let the first few go thru with no problems, but if you start receiving regular payments they will start to look further and maybe flag your account. The items you are selling should not be a problem, as VERO is ebay not PP. As with anything...start slow and build your way up.

If it is a well established account that has ALWAYS been linked with ebay and confirmed, you might be able to get away with it for just a little bit. Also if you have alot of Ebay feedback. I did it for a little bit when I got over 100 feedback once, but its really not worth risking it. You will get popped 1000000X sooner if you do that. Not to mention a payment for like $4.00 could start the verification I don't ever do it unless my Ebay account get suspended and all the money is already gone from Paypal and I just wanna see if I can get a little more .

So what about a PayPal account that is not at all linked to an eBay account, but is fully verified? Any problems getting non-eBay payments that way?

The answer is yes. I had a problem just last week, by sending payments to myself.

In terms of VERO, what price ranges are you looking at? also what is the frequency of the sales in a week?

Hi There,

We're looking at 5 sales per week, in the $250-350 range. These would just be "request for money" and the items would not be mentioned in the "invoice." I was just going to put a reference number, and email the buyer directly.

I am on the same boat as yourself! I would be looking for the same thing as yourself.. around £250 a week, 1 payment ?? Anyone got a view if the account would get looked at..

That is incidental!!!!

I have very, very issues accepting payments for items outside of ebay. It's almost like eBay ruined paypal!
