Shipping with held funds I couldn't find this in a thread. I'm sure its been covered before, but alas, I could not see any...
I was under the impression you could use a portion of the held funds [21 days] to print shipping label within PayPal.
But the only option it gives me is credit card.
Is this only applicable if you have equivalent funds already available? Meaning if I have enough to ship, use it, shortly thereafter the shipping amount will be released from hold to match?
Thanks |
| meVebay | 06-10-2010 04:19 PM | Yep, that is correct!
A positive change from Paypal i feel! |
So when you say correct; You mean they do release hold on amount used for shipping, but AFTER you pay for said shipping first? |
| cardfelon | 06-10-2010 05:07 PM | Here in the US they don't release part of the funds. They only release the full payment once you receive positive feedback or the 21 days has gone by. Maybe it's different in other countries but I doubt it. |
Well from my experience PayPal release it while printing the postage it was random sometimes I paid with credit and had to ship package another and the funds were already released because I indicated that I was using a med flat rate box. It does say somewhere that PayPal will release the funds for shipping but it doesn't happen until you actually print the postage. GOOD LUCK! |
Ya. Thats the way I figured it was, thanks. Its nice to get shipping fee back right away. Item out and waiting a bit for payment is ok. But adding shipping costs to the red, if high, is an extra pain sometimes. So this is a nice feature for sure.... |
| cardfelon | 06-10-2010 06:43 PM | So your saying that if you pay for the postage then Paypal will release the amount that is equal to the postage? I have several accounts that I paid for the postage with my Paypal balance and never once have they released any portion of the held funds from the payment associated with the item that I just printed out the postage for through Paypal. How many people can confirm this? |

Maybe it's only if you use flat rate boxes but if you use other shipping methods then it wouldn't work because then of course you could sell an item for less and put the shipping price high. I will try to find some info straight from the horse's mouth (PayPal). |
Hmmm. Seems maybe yes, maybe no. Good ol paypal with making their own rules work sometimes...
They note very little on site that I can find and it seems vague [Naturally]
"If you print labels and pay for shipping through PayPal or eBay, the cost of shipping will be released from your pending balance shortly after purchase. Printing labels on eBay and PayPal is free. You're charged only the cost of shipping."
I have something to print shipping tonight so I will try and see if its released. If its not released I will email paypal and see why... |
Yes that's what I was looking for but we need a link to it. |
Yes that post#5 link works the post you just posted didn't work because you must be logged in. But that's where I saw it and it only worked n 1 of my accounts randomly thanks for the link. |
| jbluntz | 06-10-2010 08:59 PM | Yes paypal uses money from the held funds to pay for shipping only when you print your label from paypal, it says that on their site somewhere, also it works when I do it I use paypal multi-order shipping. |
Thanks Jbuntz AKA Snow "The Informer" |
| jbluntz | 06-10-2010 09:33 PM | Snow "The Informer"? not quite, I don't think so, think you got your styles just a tad bit mixed up there lol. Try something more like this. |
| cardfelon | 06-10-2010 10:27 PM | Guess I'll have to email Paypal and find out what the deal is. I just printed a few labels about 2 hours ago and the balance hasn't changed at all in my account. How long does it normally take? |
| jbluntz | 06-10-2010 10:39 PM | They deduct it as soon you click pay and print. |

| jbluntz | 06-10-2010 10:48 PM | They deduct out of the held funds in your paypal account maybe it doesn't work in Canada, if you have funds available on your creditcard or paypal balance then yeah they'll take from there first but if you cc is 0 and your availabe paypal bal. is 0 then they'll take it from the held funds. |
| cardfelon | 06-10-2010 11:03 PM | So it only works then if your available funds are $0 and the rest of your balance is in the pending funds section? |
| jbluntz | 06-10-2010 11:06 PM | Pretty much, thats the only time you need it anyway, at least for me. If your available balance $2 and shipping is $4 they'll take $2 from your bal. and the other $2 from the held funds. |
It did work for two items I shipped using PayPal's in house shipping. But I did have to have enough to cover it in my balance. May also have worked if I used my CC to pay, not sure as I never tried it that way yet. But once label printed the shipping amount was released from hold on that item and immediately put back into balance.
Its nice. It helps a little to not have to go out of pocket for shipping on top of item. |
| jbluntz | 08-27-2010 12:13 AM | It's kind a wierd, seems like they only take shipping from held funds sometimes and sometimes they don't. |
Every time I've done it I had to have enough already free. And after label is done, that amount gets released within a few minutes. But only after I have paid for it... |
| jbluntz | 08-27-2010 12:23 AM | The thing is I've tried it on accounts with 0 availible and it worked, other accounts it didn't work and it says on their site that they deduct shipping from held funds, I guess is just another paypal mystery. |

:noidea: |
| jbluntz | 08-27-2010 12:31 AM | Same here, printed 3 shipping labels, withdrew $100, checked back a few minutes later and limited, bunch a Monkeys. |
I never even withdrew. Account was fine, got to the end of print label and bang. Guess shipping out what buyer paid for is risky.... |
| jbluntz | 08-27-2010 12:43 AM | That's never happened with me, I use paypal mult-order shipping which is run by a third party Pitney-Bowes, you might be a tad bit safer using them. | | All times are GMT -5. The time now is 04:51 AM. | |
