jeffweico | 09-08-2010 11:16 PM | In the US a few years ago, there was a big push by the government to prohibit credit card issuers from allowing credit cards to be used to transfer funds for the purpose of gambling. There were also some court rulings that allowed people who hand gambled thousands of dollars to effectively charge back the transactions.
So, the Visa/Mastercard merchants association rules prohibit using their cards to transfer funds for the purpose of gambling.
I remember that PayPal was once used for this a LOT and then they stopped it. Apparently it applies to their accounts in the UK as well.
So this is probably why they are asking. But I can also see the day where they will find a $100 charge for a restaurant on your PayPal Visa and want to know what you ate, who you were with, and collect DNA samples from both of you.
BTW: I am on YOUR SIDE on this one. Personally, I think gambling is a huge waste of money, but I agree that you have the right to spend your hard earned $$$ however you want to. |
