| imjustme | 01-29-2008 02:52 PM | PayPal will start holding funds for 21 days Quote:
Occasional holds on payment
27. Which sellers will have their payments held?
In a small percentage of cases where it has been determined the risk of dissatisfied buyers is higher, PayPal may delay release of the payment funds to the seller until the buyer has left a positive feedback or 21 days have passed without a dispute, claim, chargeback or reversal filed on that transaction.
To determine if a transaction may have a higher risk of dissatisfied buyers, eBay reports to PayPal a number of factors, including but not limited to:
* Seller's % Positive Feedback in the last 30 days
* Seller's Detailed Seller Ratings in the last 30 days
* Final price for the item
* Shipping & handling fee
* Seller's eBay tenure as an eBay member
* Seller's total number of Feedback
28. How will I know that my payment is being held?
Payments that are held will be shown as "pending" in your PayPal balance. PayPal will send an email notifying you when the hold is released. PayPal Money Market Fund customers will continue to receive income for amounts that are being held in your account.
More here: Fees 2008 Rewards FAQ | Am I reading this right? PayPal will hold payments if you don't have at least 100 positive feedback and meet half a dozen other requirements? And they call it a "small percentage of cases"? I'd say about 95% of eBay sellers have less than 100 feedback! That's not a "small percentage". |
| ebayisanecessaryevil | 01-29-2008 03:02 PM | well since they spent all the money that was being held from the frozen accounts on their new toy they need to build up their savings. I love paypal. |
| coolandcalm | 01-29-2008 03:21 PM | We all know here they will make up any excuse to hold the money and earn interest on it until it is RELEASED. They are going to loose alot of business behind these moves. |

| koalawash | 01-29-2008 04:48 PM | How do you know that? What's to stop them from doing this with everyone they possibly can? |
| ivegotinfo | 01-29-2008 05:19 PM | yeah i read that today and finally im going to open a merchant account with ccnow to use for all my accounts garrr... 5% fees though, but safe and sound from paypals bullcrap |
Hmm I wonder how this'll affect CCnow...because I'd rather just use CCnow and get the money in 14 days |

How do you know that? | Sorry, I've checked there is
"fewer than 5% of all payments on eBay"
Anyway, Fees 2008 Rewards FAQ
ebay will check other sides to make a decision...such as
* Seller's % Positive Feedback in the last 30 days
* Seller's Detailed Seller Ratings in the last 30 days
* Final price for the item
* Shipping & handling fee
* Seller's eBay tenure as an eBay member
* Seller's total number of Feedback
I guess it is not madatory, not every transaction will be held!
even if you don't meet all the following requirements:
* eBay Tenure: Greater than 6-months
* Total Feedback score: More than 100
* Dissatisfied Buyers %: Less than 5%
Or if you don't meet all the following requirements: Detailed Seller Rating: Greater than 4.5 And Total Detailed Seller Ratings Recieved: More than 20 in the last 12-months. |
| koalawash | 01-29-2008 05:59 PM | It will be hell for everyone with a new account, in any case. And I guess that covers most people here. |

| tvaughan08 | 01-29-2008 06:32 PM | Paypal is about to SCAM a whole lot of sellers...I can see it now, you have sold 30 items and shipped all your products in hopes that your funds will be released then paypal emails you.."sorry we can verify your identity and your funds will be on hold for 180 days" Sorry |
| DogFacedBoy | 01-29-2008 06:32 PM | I don't know if EB and PP did anything as a direct result of anything discussed here, but I do agree with CH in that some things are better not discussed in detail in the public areas and even via PM make sure that you know who you are talking too. |
| ebayhateluv | 01-29-2008 08:58 PM | Ok, so we Re-Group.. I'm Probably "Big Mouth#1", so what?

I told aspkin to track IPs reading this forum and block anything related to ebay or that has ebay in the reverse DNS. I guess he didn't. |
| DogFacedBoy | 01-29-2008 09:44 PM | How would that prevent someone from spying from home or using a proxy |

| ebayhateluv | 01-29-2008 09:50 PM | Let me tell you a funny story (and I am in NO WAY worried)..
I have 14 Paypal accounts, Ive gotinfo can Verify this, as he has networked with me on some things..
-- I had a call missed this morning, i have it in my cell as "paypal holds", its 1-800-830-8574
I have all 14 transferred to my cell, so i didnt really know which acct they were calling about??
-- here i am driving around, flipping though my card file box,,guys beeping behind me, cause Im moving too slow for them..
Turns out--BESIDES Paypal atm card holds, Chevy chase also uses them, to check on your useage...I just bought my kids a new pc on hsn.. they were just verifying it was me..
So- i was panic for nothing.. |

Proxies that you enter into your browser settings take work and are slow and may be slightly illegal at least for a company. The fast ones all leak your real IP address in the headers which aspkin can block. Also the web anonymizer sites can just be blocked, too.
Tor which is totally anonymous is extremely slow like crazy and there's methods to look up any Tor node to see if it is Tor. |
| DogFacedBoy | 01-29-2008 09:58 PM | This isn't much different than telemarketers spoofing phone calls which there are currently bills in congress to make it a felony to do so |
| koalawash | 01-29-2008 10:18 PM | It doesn't matter whether or not eBay uses proxies I would think. Couldn't their employees just look at the site at home anyway? |

I can somewhat see putting a hold on full funds for something like that. But than again. such a transaction should be ok first, talkin about having your balls in a grinder | Granted but since when did that ever stop them from limiting an account when you tried to withdraw $100 after maybe doing a few hundred dollars of business? I can't wait till one of us comes on here to complain that their $50 is being held for 21 days. |
| imjustme | 01-29-2008 11:17 PM | What I find strange and what I believe needs to be discussed is their "less than 5% of payments" sentence. So far, they told us that unless you have:
* Less than 6 months registered on eBay
* Less than 100 feedback
and some other things..
They MAY hold your funds. Whether in eBay terms that means they WILL hold the funds, we don't know.
Surely it's NOT only 5% of eBay sellers that have been registered for 6+ months and have 100 feedback. Surely not, I mean come on ...
So does it affect about 5% of sellers that have less than 100 feedback? Or is the 5% estimate those buyers that have less than 100 feedback? |
| topazcorp | 01-29-2008 11:19 PM | Hey guys why don't we do like them and start banning people out of this site if they don't fax their life to Aspkin:D |
| imjustme | 01-29-2008 11:21 PM | By the way, notice how they say if you have 20+ feedback and a detailed rating of 4.5 your funds won't be held? |
| Jonas | 01-29-2008 11:35 PM | Ebay also likes ebay accounts older than 6 months.
But anyway, ebay also said DSRs of 1 or 2 will count as bad to you. |
| imjustme | 01-29-2008 11:36 PM | Great, so a competitor can bid on your item. You can't leave him negative feedback, but he can leave you a DSR of 1 on each row, causing you to be a "bad seller" and having your funds locked up for 21 days on top. |
| Chris Hanson | 01-29-2008 11:53 PM | Thats the point.. I bet paypal employees will start bidding on sellers item just to leave them neg feedback to have an excuse to lock up funds..
Its all a big game |
| Dutch | 01-29-2008 11:54 PM | All these new restrictions take away from the business of selling without repercussion makes them (eby and PP) money and not you in the long run. I don't have these problems anymore outside of the ebay community. Even when my customers use paypal, they know what they are getting and without incident from ebay.
Ebay controls their sellers now. Sellers have lost their rights IMHO. I sell my Veros without incident without using ebay. No one buys Veros on ebay anymore when they can get it cheaper and faster someplace else and privately.
Not all auction marketplace sites that accept paypal want intrusive garbage from an ebay-owned site that is dictating the rules. Sellers need to get back to the business of running their own businesses, and finally leave PP in the gutter, and go merchant account.
ebay is no longer a trusted name. |

Its all a big game | That is exactly what happened to me and I got suspended. I have been waving that red alert ever since. The "buyers" are dubious, and many are ebay staff itself.
The people making the real money are their employees with sellers accounts. |
| ebayhateluv | 01-29-2008 11:57 PM | Very GOOD Point, Dutch.. Well Taken. :) |
| koalawash | 01-30-2008 12:09 AM | Yeah it's like eBay kamikaze attack.. no way to defend.
EDIT: LOL not even that I guess.. I forget the buyer can't get neg fb's now. :rolleyes: |
