If i withdraw my paypal funds to a check, will it be cashable at any bank or just at the bank i used to verify my paypal?:pry:

I'm pretty sure a check is only cashable at the bank that provides the check... so if PP sends you a Chase Bank check, it'd only be cashable at Chase.

However, this varies with different bank's policies.

You would be able to cash it at any bank you have a account at.

Disclaimer: If the names do not match, you may have some issues. Also, if the check is large you will probably have to deposit it and wait for the funds to clear which is usually 5 business days.

Like TGMT says, you can cash it at any bank you have an account atays or at the bank the check was drawn off of.

Yet there is often a fee now to cash the check at the bank the check is drawn from, so it may be worth it to pay the 10% or so fee to cash it at a check cashing business, depending on the size of the check.

I'd plan on handing over my drivers license as ID knowing they will compare names no matter where you cash it.

This is correct, but to clarify you will only be able to cash the check at a bank that you have an account at and you currently have funds to cover the amount of the check in case it bounces.

If you have $4.99 in your account and you try to cash a $5 check, they won't let you.

Edit: If you know anyone with an Asian passport they can cash just about anything anywhere. They hand over the passport written in Mandarin/Japanese/Korean and there's no way to compare the names.

Keep in mind that "cashing" is different than "depositing."

Cashing is when you hand them the signed check and they hand you money. Depositing makes you wait a few days. The policy makes sense since the bank may not know if the check will clear for several business days after you cash it.

Also note, there is something like a PP "hold" on your funds at the bank after you cash a check.

If you have $200 in an account and cash a $180 check and then go to withdraw $40 your transaction will be denied due to a pending hold on the $180.

ok this is wat i do
i add an address to the paypal

address 1: my name
address 2: 1234 street name
city:
state
zip

so i put my name and my address or an address where i can get a hold of the mail
then i request checks to the new address
so what happens is they write u a check and there will be two names on the check
the name on paypal and your name
how are u gonna cash it?
u gotta go to ur local liqour store where they know u well
they will cash it since your name is on it too
they usually charge me 3% to cash it
irs wont come after u for all this money because the check is actually written under the ⊗⊗⊗⊗ paypal name

slim jim 10-31-2012 12:21 PM

I'm not sure how that is possible as you can't endorse checks over to someone else anymore???

I honestly find your method too risky and would not recommend anyone try it.

Some banks still take it - depends on relationship, etc.

yotano211 10-31-2012 01:17 PM

This is what I do, I sign the person's name on the back top, stealth name, and right under that name I sign my name. This is called a "3rd party check".

I go to my bank's atm and "deposit" the check, I dont cash it, I deposit. I dont need the money right there and now so I only deposit the check. I wait until it clears, 3-4 days, withdraw money and send it on buzz, chicks, drugs, and mail order bridges from Russia.

Hardly anywhere will accept a third party check because of the high risk of fraud. But banks can because they already confirmed your identity, have all your real info and all other things of stuff. But the normal transaction time is slightly increased for the check to clear.

rsot 10-31-2012 01:23 PM

Ha yotano - yeah deposit is right - many banks still dont like 3rd party endorsement BUT some do...just have to play the game right

I have deposited some 3rd party checks at a credit union I only had for 2 weeks. But it really depends on the bank, not on the bank relationship. But I have yet to find a bank that denied my 3rd party check.

sidebetz 10-31-2012 01:36 PM

are you planning on withdrawing much? maybe you can withdraw it buy transfering it through a gambling site.

vinbux 10-31-2012 08:41 PM

If you're an American, I know for fact that if you have a business banking account with most of the banks, they don't care about names on the check matching the name on the account.

If you've got a bank that has ATM check deposit, you can deposit them to the account without much of a problem.

As long as the check is a good check, you'll be alright. Of course, I've yet to do this with any amount over $2,500 and expect a few days wait to have your funds available.

I've done this with Paypal and a few other processors with no problem.

rsot 11-01-2012 07:27 AM

It also depends a lot on how much you are putting through and how often. Some banks will play the 3rd party game, some wont. In US you have a lot of banks to try so all the best. Canada is bit tougher but thats just a side note

smohsin586 11-01-2012 10:41 AM

your right i did it for pnc business checking for a while but
they caught on to me
because i was depositing like $4000+ check everyday
if u have small checks u should be able to do it with no problem

but then again i dont prefer banks
liqour stores are the best
build good relationship explain to them what ur doing
as long as they know ur not shady they will cash anything u give them
