Default Same sort code, different account

So, I opened up a secondary bank account today from my main account.
It has a different account number, but same sort code.

Do you think it's a bad idea to try opening up another paypal account (this is just as a backup account), if the sort code is the same as my current paypal account?

What's a sort code? is that like an ABA routing number here in the states?
You should be fine as long as your account number is totally different.

Then again, I am not the expert, might want to see what the experts have to say.

I'm not entirely sure Lisa, I guess it's the equivalent to the routing number yea. Although I'm not sure...

if it's like a routing number, or basically the number that your bank uses for direct depost, then it would be okay. i have used 3 different checking accounts, all with the same routing number on paypal. they all have different checking account numbers though. no problems with paypal.

Sort Code is kinda not that important Mant.. all if signifies is the Branch of a particular Bank, and of course.. 1000's of people end up with the same sort code..

The USA, UK and Australia have different words to identify accounts:
Bank Accounts are made up in the following way
USA routing number (self explanatory) & account number.
UK sort code & account number
AUS BSB Bank,State,Branch & account number
Each country has different amount of numbers in making up this ID. So
a UK account can only works in the Uk etc etc.
