How much can they check?
 

Hi all

I'm a US Paypal seller, and my Paypal has been limited.
I'm trying to create a new Paypal account in Cyprus using my brother's name and info.

However the debit card is in my name and is linked to my bank account in Cyprus.

1 - When adding my debit card, should I keep my brother's name or put my name instead?

Does Paypal have any way of knowing the owner of a debit card issued in Cyprus or its address?


2 - I have some real billing address receipts (for verification), but they're in my friend's name will Paypal accept those (saying that we're renting together)
or I'd better supply my own?

What you are proposing is not at all recommended to do AT ALL.

How stupid do you think paypal is? They can ID any card.

Actually it depends on the card, some card require exact name and address to verify some others no. If you are using Cyp PP its ok to use any real CC, if you have the prove address for CYP then you are lucky..but if PP will ask for it, the name and the address should match the registered name and address in PP.

In CYP pp you can add only US bank account or CC. so even if you have CYP bank account you can not add it to paypal

Thank you guys for all the feed, but I think I didn't explain myself well.

For the new Paypal, I'll be using Cyprus as country.
IP: Cyprus
Phone: Cyprus
Bank: Cyprus (debit card is in my name, however the billing the bank in not in Cyprus)
Name: Name very close to mine, nickname, and with it, it will be easy to remove )
- Not willing to use my brother's info anymore.
- In Cyprus all you can do is add the card not the bank and with it you can deposit as well as withdraw.

What's still in question for me is when I add my debit card will they be able to check, my name and address or just the card numbers and the small deposits?

PS: As I read in the Wikipedia that the AVS system applies only in US UK and Canada, but still not sure if the card will get refused if my name is John Smith and my paypal name is Jon Smith

YES, Paypal can easily check the name and address of a credit or debit card but as far as I know they can't do it for all countries. Could someone please confirm?

I also asked a person who works in a credit card processing company and he gave me a similar answer.

For Cyprus all what PP ask is a debit card to verify, (no banks), and of course later billing address, Phone, and ID which I already have all of them.

Problem is: The debit card is linked to my real name (which is already linked to a limited Paypal account in the States), so if I put a close name to mine will the card still be accepted?

Again please do not compare American cards with Cypriot cards unless you are sure.
