| Ballsack | 06-05-2008 03:01 PM | This is normal with any escrow service. |
| divine422 | 06-05-2008 04:05 PM | the 21 day hold is not a big deal from what i have experienced just ship the item out as soon as possible, always pay the $1 to make the person sign for the item and its fine, especially since youre not selling high priced items. |
| thelizardking | 06-05-2008 04:11 PM | Are they holding w/ Ccnow? |
| thelizardking | 06-05-2008 04:27 PM | Good job, glad to hear someone getting their money... |
| TMiles | 06-05-2008 06:37 PM | I do not think there is any rhyme or reason. I am selling $100 cameras on an account with 5 feedback, and no hold. Same account an a $45 pair of earphones - a hold. Another pair of $60 headphones and no hold.......
Who the heck knows....I do know it is time to start pushing the merchant accounts..... |
| aznb0i | 06-05-2008 06:54 PM | Will paypal still put a hold on the money if you ask the buyer to send directly by paypal and list it as a service? |
| GreenBean | 06-05-2008 07:00 PM | Do you know the winning lottery numbers? No. Does anyone know what paypal will do? NO. |
| jscan | 06-05-2008 08:02 PM | im just waiting for this to happen to me... ahhh |
| ebayhateluv | 06-05-2008 08:26 PM | HI:
What I do on items over $200--I sent via ups 2 day air, items over $500-go overnite--\
Buyer like it, increases my dsrs--and Im ALWAYS ready for a pp hold.. they get tracking/delivered in 1-2 days.. |
| ebayhateluv | 06-05-2008 08:39 PM | HI: I use ccnow+ I have not had any holds.. BUT--I have not had any Chargebacks, either |
| Ebaysux | 06-05-2008 09:57 PM | I made a mistake and added a delivery confirmation number for an item I shipped a week earlier. This mistake on my end lead to a 21-day hold. This has been my 1st hold. |
| ebaykilla | 06-06-2008 11:25 AM | so the 21 day hold is just for high priced items? |
The 21 day hold is for every PP payment linked to an ebay auction regardless of amount.
The problem is that you must accept paypal under ebays new policy. I have found that 80-90 percent of buyers will pay via paypal within minutes of buying an item. I sell only fixed price items. The paypal email addy on your listing must be the same as your registered ebay email addy or the ebay system will not allow you to list the item.
There are 2 possible scenarios that will happen. This assumes a valid email address because you must confirm your email addy to use it on ebay.
1. If the email address is registered on a PP account then when the customer makes the PP payment, it hits the seller PP account with a 21 day hold. These are the payments that I refunded and requested a new payment.
2. If the email addy is not registered on any PP accounts, when the customer makes the PP payment the payment does not go to any account, it remains somewhere in cyberspace until seller links the email addy to a PP account. The payment will show on the buyers PP account as "unclaimed". When you link the email addy to a PP account, all of the pending payments will be added to your account without a 21 day hold. The problem is that PP will shortly limit the PP account so you must dispose of the PP funds quickly before the account is limited. As a test, I linked an email addy with a 20.00 pending payment and did a transfer to bank account of the 20.00. I did this around 300 PM. At 130 AM PP limited the account and reversed the 20.00 deposit. I had to refund the 20.00 payment to the customer as it was now a worthles payment.
It appears buyers are unaware if they make a payment to an unregistered PP account unless they go to their PP account details where the payment will show as unclaimed.
I am unaware of any method of preventing a buyer from making a PP payment for an item. Even if you turn off checkout, buyers can still make a PP payment for the item from their myebay or the email link. |

zymo,
There is a problem there which you are not seeing. You can't accept payments with one account, but you can accept payments with another account, and both accounts are payPal. It is suspecious.
It is weired and creepy, like approaching a stranger from behind type of creepy.
I'm not accepting PayPal. But it is required to get paid. So, what I do is list with a ⊗⊗⊗⊗ paypal address, like something descriptive f_paypal_@f_paypal.com
I don't mention PayPal inside the listing at all. Just the type of payments I accept, money order, check, major credit cards through a 3rd party checkout sytem.
After they win I send them invoice from google checkout, 3 copies for greater visibility. E-mail them I e-mail you an invoice, check your e-mail to pay. It works! TRY IT! |
That only works 50-70 percent of the time. I even tell bidders I DON'T TAKE PAYPAL in my auction and they still pay me thru paypal because all they care about is that little symbol next to your title. Then there are the idiots who don't know how to cancel their payments after paying thru paypal. It never ends. |
| aznb0i | 06-08-2008 11:26 PM | I sold a phone for $320 and the buyer sent me the money and paypal didn't hold it.Wierd. |
| divine422 | 06-09-2008 11:22 AM | True, I have started doing that as well...I send all items by express or priority depending on the cost. I use to drop ship as well but because of the new holds that makes it a bit impossible now i.e if you want your money quickly. |
| ebaykilla | 06-09-2008 12:07 PM | what do you mean you must take paypal? Just having a merchant account is no longer good? |
| meowmix541 | 06-12-2008 12:01 AM | work around Ok you didn't hear this from me but I set up a prostores and have all my items checked to be checked out there. (using ⊗⊗⊗⊗ information on both prostores and ebay)
Here is the work around on Prostores they don't MAKE you take paypal yet on there. so on ebay your accepting paypal to satisfy them BUT on prostores just uncheck it and it will make the paypal page not work. When your buyer goes to check out it will say "this auction is still running" (I don't know why it says that frankly don't care) Then all you have to do is tell the buyer you will send them a money request Works like a charm!! I have a new account with 10 feedback and not one 21 day hold......
I wouldn't have said anything but the Aspin Guide helped me so much it's my lil way of paying you all back :)
I am also using AOL X for mac it's a little tricky but I havn't been suspended yet I am on my 3rd week |
| trust & safety retards | 06-13-2008 04:28 PM | My paypal account is just over 1 month old and my feedback is less than 10 (all gained from buying) and as of now I have 3 auctions up and am accepting paypal as method of payment and both email addy's in ebay and paypal are identical, My paypal account is in the last stage of being verified (need to verify bank account) So when I am paid will Paypal automatically hold my money for 21 days? |
| imjustme | 06-13-2008 05:03 PM | I haven't had a hold yet. I sold a $190 item on a brand new 10 day old 0 feedback account and it didn't get held either :D |

If the money is held then I have no possible way for this to work.
Is there any workaround using checkout accounts? |
| Exeneva | 06-13-2008 05:45 PM | My solution has been pretty simple. I just refund the payments back to my buyers and send them an email saying: "For some odd reason, your payment does not appear in my balance. I will send you a separate invoice via Paypal and you can pay me directly. Don't worry - you'll still be covered under Paypal protection."
