selling outside of ebay

Haven't had to deal with this in over a year. What happens when a buyer files item not as described claim, after purchasing an item outside of ebay. He contacted me if I could sell the item before end of auction, and I knew I shouldn't have done it, but I did it anyways. Funny about this case is that the buyer actually stated in his complaint that the item he purchased was from an auction on ebay lol. I know ebay's policy is that both buyers and sellers cannot deal outside of ebay. Will he still win the case? Will both of our accounts close down?

Thanks

I dont think you have to worry about any problems about doing the transaction out of ebay, because paypal has no idea. As for the dispute itself it all depends on what was sold, what the complaint is, and what the request of the buyer is.

I highly doubt it... The transaction is outside of ebay so it would be independent of your eBay account. There is no actual proof to suggest that the item was sold to the buyer on eBay.

He can't claim via eb ay but possibly via pa yp al. They prob would say return for refund but I have not dealt with this in a long time. Always good when eb ay is NOT in the mix.

He gave them the item # of the original auction. Not sure how eBay and paypal communicate, but if they work together in these type of claims, they will find that the buyer and I had sent messages to one another. I'm worried that they will freeze or close my account because the transaction was made outside of eBay. I know it would be best if the buyer just returns the item for refund, but I actually responded back to his claim that the item was used and not new as he claimed it should have been. If they do look at the auction, paypal will see that it was a used item.

I just went through this same problem.. Paypal made the buyer return the item to me and i had to refund him.

Hey thanks for this info. How long did it take from the time the buyer filed the claim, until it was finally resolved? 2 weeks? 1 month? The message in the paypal system says they will contact me if they need additional info by oct. 21st. That's a long time from now.

Thanks
