Default "if the item sells over $XXX.XX, I accept bank transfer or cheque only"

Just wondering, does anyone know if this is allowed by PayPal/eBay?

Say I start an auction for an item at $100, can I write if the final price is over say $1000, I accept only bank transfer or a cheque, not PayPal? But if it sells under $1000, I accept PayPal?

I think this may be allowed. I just checked eBay's PayPal policy at:
PayPal Payments Policy

It clearly states that writing "“I only accept PayPal if the bid amount is greater than $15”" is NOT allowed. But it doesn't say anything that you can't write that you won't accept PayPal for items that sell over a certain price.

I think it does. Read all the wording of the paragraphs describing payment policies. Look at
the last sentence. That says you can not do this.

It just says:

Sellers may not communicate to buyers that they only accept account balance or bank account funded payments, or will not accept card funded payments.

That means you can't say that you won't accept PayPal only if the buyer funds their purchase through their credit card (to avoid chargebacks).

It also says you can't write that you accept PayPal only above a certain amount. It doesn't say that you can't write that you don't accept PayPal past a certain amount. Think about it ...someone sells an item for $500,000. Surely they can write they won't accept PayPal for it.

I think the generalization of the words is why ebay could take an item down. imjustme, it will probably depend on the category etc. What puzzles me if you expect to start at $100.00 but want t quantify it by saying amounts of $1000.00 must be paid by a means other than paypal. Can you list at an opening figure of say $200.00 and then have a higher reserve. After a low bid, it says reserve not meet. Sort of justifying getting more money?
When we sell an item that we fully expect to get $1400 or more, we make the
opening bid say $190, then have the reserve not meet and (with luck) the
price rises well past the reserve.

I just spoke to Live Help and they told me that, in their own words:

I don't see any policy that would not allow you to do this.

Seems to be okay then.

Yes, imjustme, do try it and let us know. If this were possible, I would use it extensively.
But then many of us would - which probably mean EB/PP won't allow it.

If I get suspended, I will blame it on that rogue live help agent.
