Is this new...I have new PayPal, totally verified...banks and social security number. I sold an item..,not on eBay, soni requested money via PayPal and was told the payment was placed on hold...I thought PayPal only held eBay payments?????:attention:

I have never had payments held outside of ebay, but i have heard of it happening on occassion.

It just happened to me today...I've never had it happen before...I'm solo bummed...I hate the hold situation

Outside payments do get placed on hold for invoices if you choose the invoice option many times. It has happened to me.

Me neither and I've sent a lot from a 1 month new account within a 2 month period. But maybe because it was fully verified with cc and SSN. :ranger:

Anyone else who works mainly with PPal invoices has seen this happening?

Been happening with off ebay transactions for the past 13 months. BUT, and here's the crunch, it is fast becoming as common as the 21 day ebay holds.

Why? Far too many people were attempting to avoid ebay holds. Because of this, paypal decided to check a lot more often ALL off ebay transactions.

Since late November paypal have been really active.:mad: They have been putting holds on invoices, charity payments, everything

I'm glad this hasn't happened to me yet. I often refund payments to buyers on new accounts and resend them an invoice through paypal to get around the hold. I always make sure to change the amount though, just so it doesn't look as suspicious. Haven't had a problem as of yet, but then again, the 21 day hold doesn't bother me as much anymore since you get the funds just a few days after product is delivered anyways. I only re-invoice the buyer if I need the cash out of an account ASAP, and never do this with an account that isn't fully credit card confirmed and prepaid bank account as well.

@fastfire, problem with paypal is they are unpredictable.

What works one day, does not fly the next day.

They release it to you early a few days after delivery? I uploaded all my tracking information. Do they automatically do this or do I have to get feedback first??

I have never had a 21 day hold for outside of ebay payments, but I have had this payment is under fraud review for 24 hour hold. It usually clears in 24 hours but I had one that stayed pending for 3 days until it was cancelled.

Not sure how it works in Canada, but here the funds are released 3 days after the tracking number you put into paypal says it was delivered, or after the buyer leaves positive feedback, whichever occurs first.

PP holds has been happening for any new pp account in most cases.

Buying or selling outside of eb for any decent amount of money on a new account draws flags up.

I am Canadian seller and I guess here in Canada even when we do enter tracking number into paypal they wont release our funds until 21 days are over. I remember it used to be 3 days after you provide tracking number but not anymore.

yep, this seems to be the new thing for all new paypal accounts. All of my new paypal accounts from the last 3 months have had this 21 day hold, and I only do off-ebay transactions, even when selling on ebay I send invoices directly to my customers. I don't know what they expect to accomplish, but this will definitely limit they're growth for new customers, therefore driving their market share down. This means 21 day holds for everything with paypal, craigslist payments, paying someone locally for a service, selling from your own site, etc... this sound like paypal shooting itself in the foot. Cash and money orders will start to rule again.
