Paypal Trying to Get funds from Stealth Bank Account

So I had a customer who received a broken item, they sent it back but when the Mail man tried to deliver I wasn't home. My elderly neighbor received the package for me but forgot to give it to me so the customer did a chargeback.

After 2 days the neighbor finally gave me the package, so I refunded the customer their cash back.

Paypal supposedly refunded the customer but now Paypal is trying to get funds from the bank account on the Stealth account. The account has been on a 21 day hold since I got it.

Does anyone know why Paypal is trying get funds from the bank?

Here is the message on the paypal account:

Any insight would help.

From what I understand, PP does a small fee for refunding money, I know they are thieves. Maybe PP just wants to make sure they is enough funds to cover everything. Or maybe PP just like money.

Maybe they tried to charge the credit card on file but there wasn't enough funds on the card and went after your bank account.

I had $23.00 not on hold, why wouldn't they just take whatever fee from that?

Also it doesn't make sense they would try to take cash from the "bank account" when they already sent the customer their money back.

i have no idea. they operate in strange ways.

yea strange, you had enough to refund the refund fee and funds on the 21 day hold. sorry no idea

They 'look' at the whole amount involved in the chargeback & apply fees to that. They have no interest in anything but their perceived total amount.
I could say they are crappy, yes ;)

@Greenbean, so do you think they will limit the account if they don't get any cash from the bank account?

There's $23 in the Paypal account that is available (not on 21 day hold).

Pa yp al is very weird on their system updates - sometimes it looks like you are being double charged when in fact, you are not.

@marysman78, chances are good that if it's ONE time only, you wont be limited - repeat activity will lead to problems.

@rsot, Yeah it's the first time I see this kind of charge ever, I've done money returns on other accounts and never saw this kind of issue, I guess well see what happens.

Thanks for the info everyone....

Alot of times when u have a payment thats in hold and u want to refund the buyer Pp will take the money out of ur account or bank or cc to cover the refund instead of relaseing the hold thats on the original funds.

This is true! I have had this myself and it is total BS... They should refund the money on hold... But in the bizzaro world of PP everything does not make sense.

However they are doing something new. I have this only on one paypal account so far. The buyer can "complete" the transaction through their pp releasing the funds to you. I know this because I have been buying on this account and release the funds when I get product.

I'm having funds released tomorrow which is enough to cover the chargeback, would it be better to "Email" Paypal or "Call" and try and get them to just take cash from the funds being released tomorrow (1/13/2012)?

Question: What info does Paypal ask to verify the caller when calling in?

Thanks guys.

They can ask you a lot of things, there are no definite answers.

Also consider turning on ClearType

MM78 01-12-2012 08:07 PM

So which is better, call or email?

BiN4RY 01-12-2012 10:01 PM

Calling them since you can actually get some answer asap without the "risk" of receiving a generic canned email or a email telling you to call them instead after a few days.
